New York Mets SP Victor Zambrano tore the flexor tendon in his right elbow. After the injury, Zambrano acknowledged that he has beeen pitching with continuous soreness since joining the Mets in the controversial July 30, 2004, trade with Tampa Bay for Scott Kazmir. Zambrano said persistent elbow trouble prevented him from matching fans' expectations. "I can win 15-20 games," he said. "I never was feeling good to prove what I can do. ... Maybe they can understand a little bit more and have a better relationship."

Jeremi Gonzalez will take Zambrano's place in the rotation. Gonzalez is 1-2 with a 3.03 ERA at Norfolk. The 31-year-old righthander made 28 appearances for Boston last season, three as a starter, and had a 6.11 ERA in 56 innings.
