Biography

Born on December 14, 1925 in Stewartsville, Ohio, Sam Jones (Samuel Jones) played for the Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 12 year career. Jones broke into the bigs on September 22, 1951 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 4.10 ERA in 241.2 innings pitched in 1955, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Sam Jones's best season was 1959, when he posted a 2.83 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 209 batters.
