Reuben Droughns has signed a new three-year $12 million extension to stay with the Cleveland Browns. Reuben, the first rusher to gain over 1,000 yards for the Cleveland team in 20 years, had one year left on his contract. The move is the second major re-signing by Browns general manager Phil Savage this off-season having re-signed defensive line stalwart Orpheus Roye last week.

Breakdown of the Deal

  • Signing/Roster Bonuses: The deal includes $2.5M to sign, a $1.25M roster bonus due 2006, and a $1.75M roster bonus due 2007. Additionally the deal includes per-game bonuses from 2007-2009 which equate to a max of $250,000 per season
  • Salaries: Rueben is due to earn a salary of $1.2M in 2006, $1.25M in 2007, $1.75M in 2008, and $2.75 million in 2009.
  • Additional Clauses: the deal includes escalating bonuses based on yards per season which are triggered if he gains more than 1,300 yards.
