Former Red Sox shortstop Edgar Renteria, traded to the Atlanta Braves after one error-prone season in Boston, appeared ready and eager at his new team's Spring Training camp last week. Renteria is hoping to recover from his season in Boston and return to his status as one of the game's best shortstops. If he is able to recover, he should serve as an adequate replacement for Rafael Furcal, who left the Braves for the Dodgers in the offseason.

Renteria's season in Boston was marked by a dismal start in the batting cage - he hit just .228 in April - in addition to 30 errors over the course of the season. Though he recovered offensively, his thirty errors were still more than he'd accumulated over the past two seasons in St. Louis. Boston, meanwhile, is still searching for the long-term replacement for their traded superstar Nomar Garciaparra. While Garciaparra has landed with his former manager Grady Little in Los Angeles this season, the Sox have tapped former Marlin Alex Gonzalez as their next shortstop.
