The University of Maine Black Bears defeated Michigan State 5-4 on Sunday to win the East Regional played at Albany. Maine is headed back to the Frozen Four for the 10th time in school history and for the third time in the last five years.
Maine (28-11-2) advanced to the Frozen Four for the third time from this venue (Albany). In 2000, the Black Bears lost to eventual champion North Dakota in the semifinals. In 2004, they defeated Boston College in the semifinals before losing to Denver in the title game. This time around, they head to the Bradley Center on April 6.
