Biography[]

Lou Brock (Louis Clark Brock) was born on June 18, 1939 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He made his Major League debut on September 10, 1961 for the Chicago Cubs. In 1962, his rookie year, he hit .263 with 9 home runs and 35 RBI. Brock played for the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 19 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Lou Brock's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1967, when he slugged 21 home runs, stole 52 bases, hit for a .299 average and knocked in 76 runs. However, others believe that it was 1974, when he stole 118 bases (then a Major League record, and still the National League mark) and hit for a .306 average.

There is no disagreement about his productivity in the postseason. Brock hit .391 in three World Series (1964, 1967–68), with 4 home runs, 13 RBI, and 14 steals, the latter achieved by setting and then tying a World Series record with 7 steals in 1967 and 1968.
