Biography

Joe Kelley (Joseph James Kelley) was born on December 9, 1871 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He made his Major League debut on July 27, 1891 for the Boston Beaneaters. In 1892, his rookie year, he hit .235 with 0 home runs and 32 RBI. Kelley played for the Boston Beaneaters, Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, Brooklyn Superbas, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Doves over the course of his 17 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Joe Kelley's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1894, when he stole 46 bases, hit for a .393 average and knocked in 111 runs. However, others believe that it was 1896, when he stole 87 bases, hit for a .364 average and knocked in 100 runs.
