He was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the first overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft. After a holdout that lasted until the beginning of training camp after demanding a then-unprecedented 13 year $100 million contract, he eventually signed an also unprecedented 10-year, $68 million deal that still stands as the richest NBA contract to a rookie due to the "rookie cap" that was installed the following season. During his first pro year, he was twice named the Schick NBA Rookie of the Month and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team after a leading rookie average of 21.9 points per game. Robinson's community contributions in the Milwaukee area and in his home town of Gary, Indiana on behalf of under-privileged children were largely unpublicized, owing to the fact Robinson was and is naturally a very reserved, almost shy person off the court. Robinson preferred to keep as low a profile as possible. He was selected for the 1996 USA Basketball Olympic Basketball Team but was unable to play because of injury.
