Biography[]

Glendon James Rusch (born November 7, 1974, in Seattle, WA) is a left handed starting pitcher who currently plays for the Chicago Cubs. He has previously played for the Kansas City Royals ('97-'99), the New York Mets ('99-'01), and the Milwaukee Brewers ('02-'03).

Until recently, he had not been able to be effective at the major league level, only winning ten games twice in his ten year career and having a career ERA of 4.79. He also came to the Cubs off of one of his worst seasons in 2003 with the Brewers, going 1-12 with an ERA of 6.42. Recently, he seems to have turned it around, though. In 2004, he was signed by the Cubs to a minor-league contract and proceeded to become one of the Cubs most reliable pitchers, both in relief and in the starting rotation. He went 6-2 with a 3.47 ERA in both 16 starts and relief appearances in 2004. In 2005 he has been even better. He is currently (as of June 8), 5-1 with an ERA 2.07 in 7 starts and 11 relief appearances. He also recorded his 11th career complete game in a four-hit shutout against the Padres on June 2. On September 29, 2005, Rusch earned his 9th season win to finish above .500 (50%) in his win-loss record for the second time in his career.

He is a fast worker on the mound and has shown good command of his two main pitchers, curveball and fastball. He has been effective versus both left-handed and right-handed batters. He is also an adept fielder who holds runners on well and has proven to be an excellent hitter for a pitcher, hitting two home runs in 2004 and showing skill as a bunter. He also gave up two home runs to pitcher Bronson Arroyo in 2006.

Rusch signed a two-year deal with the Cubs during the offseason in 2005 for $4 million.
