The Oakland Athletics signed Mark Ellis to a two-year, $6 million contract Saturday. Ellis is coming back from a major shoulder injury.

The A's reached a deal with Ellis, avoiding salary arbitration. Last year, Ellis batted a career-high .316 with a career-best 13 home runs and 52 RBI. General manager Billy Beane initially wanted one-year contract for Ellis, but once both sides began negotiating a multiyear deal they quickly reached an amicable agreement.
