Biography

Born on June 14, 1926 in Madison, New Jersey, Don Newcombe (Donald Newcombe) played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 10 year career. Newcombe broke into the bigs on May 20, 1949 with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and put up a 3.17 ERA in 244.1 innings pitched in 1949, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Don Newcombe's best season was 1956, when he posted a 3.06 ERA, won 27 games and struck out 139 batters.
