Biography

Dick Groat (Richard Morrow Groat) was born on November 4, 1930 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on June 19, 1952 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1952, his rookie year, he hit .284 with 1 home run and 29 RBI. Groat played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants over the course of his 14 year career.

Most people believe that Dick Groat's best season was 1963, when he hit for a .319 average and knocked in 73 runs.
