Anderson was a stand-out running back at Northwestern, leaving as the sixth all-time leading rusher in Big Ten history (4,485 yards) and NU’s all-time leader in rushing, all-purpose yards (5,261), rushing TDs (38) and 200-yard games (4). He had a break-out junior year in 2000 when he rushed for a school-record 2,063 yards, and set Northwestern single-season marks with 171.9 yards per game, 2,195 all-purpose yards, 23 touchdowns and 138 points scored. That year he was ranked second in the nation in rushing yards per game, was a first-team All-American and finished fifth in Heisman voting. His senior year was cut short when he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.
Anderson signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in April 2002. He played 35 games over four seasons with the Cardinals. In 2007 he signed with the Edmonton Eskimos and he played in five games after joining the Eskimos midway through the season and started the last two games of the season.
