Joe Maddon the Devil Rays's manager decided that the best way to defend against Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was to use six outfielders, with all of his infielders out there, except first baseman Travis Lee. "It's our 3-4 defense, from the batter's box out across the field," Maddon said. "You know, 3-4 for Ortiz [who wears No. 34]. ... Ask [Patriots coach Bill] Belichick about it." Maddon also used the shift on Tuesday night as well, moving 3B Ty Wigginton to deep left, SS Tomas Perez to short center, and 2B Jorge Cantu to short right.
