The White Sox picked up where they left off in 2005, defeating the Cleveland Indians 10-4 in the first game of the season. The game was paused after the third inning for just under three hours due to the weather conditions, but did indeed resume. The game ended at 2:10 EDT.
Jim Thome, former Indian by way of Philadelphia, blasted a two-run home run off Fernando Cabrera after the game resumed. Thome's White Sox debut also included a second run scored and two walks.
Brandon McCarthy, pitching three perfect innings in relief (after the rain delay) of starter Mark Buehrle, took the win. Cabrera was tagged for the loss.
