Born on January 8, 1953 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Bruce Sutter (Howard Bruce Sutter) played for the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves over the course of his 12 year career. Sutter broke into the bigs on May 9, 1976 with the Chicago Cubs, and put up a 2.70 ERA in 83.1 innings pitched in 1976, his rookie year.
There is some disagreement on what was Bruce Sutter's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1984, when he posted a 1.54 ERA, notched 45 saves and struck out 77 batters. However, others believe that it was 1977, when he posted a 1.34 ERA, notched 31 saves and struck out 129 batters.
