A week ago or so, Richard Zednik saw his life flash before his eyes in the literal and figurative sense of the word. Teammate Olli Jokinen's skate cut the player's carotic artery and he lost about 5 pints of blood. The artery was sliced open but was not opened completely, according to doctors in Buffalo.
After a week in a Buffalo hospital, Zednik returned to the Sunshine State. Thankfully, this story does have a happy ending. The fact that Panthers trainer Dave Zenobi acted quickly saved his life. I can imagine that Zednik will be given a hero's welcome on the 21st when the Boston Bruins come to town. He deserves that. He also deserves your prayers and well wishes, whether you're a Panther fan or not or even if you don't like hockey.
The team has Zednik listed as day to day. Vin Scully once said about being listed day to day, "and so are we all." Get healthy, Richard!
