Geoff Ogilvy and Mother Nature did the one thing other golfers, including Phil Mickleson and others couldn't. He beat Tiger Woods. The number one golfer on the planet fell behind in the recent World Golf Championships-CA Championship on the Doral Blue Monster course. Trailing by five shots, Woods tried to make a run but could not. At least there's Augusta, where he's had success of late, his last win at Augusta National coming in 2005, his fourth Green Jacket in his career.
"It is what it is. We all had to play through (the delays of rain and lightning). I had ample chances to get myself up there on that board and win the tournament and didn't do it," Woods said afterward. At least he admitted that he gave it his best effort. He gets high marks in my book. By his own admission, he didn't play well. As one of his old ads would say, "I didn't have my A game today." It showed.
Now he's got a week to try and get his game back on track. Augusta National seems to suit his game well. This week will be his chance to recharge and get things right. After all, he's got a new streak to start and a Golden Bear (Jack Nicklaus) to catch.
My money's on him doing both.
