Brett Favre was introduced to the NY media tonight in Cleveland, prior to the Jets vs. Browns preseason game. Whether you wanted him here or not, now he is a Jet and we welcome him with open arms. However, with his arrival today he was no where near playing, so he was on the sideline, set to debut next week at home vs. the Redskins. There was still a game played tonight, and the result is not important so we will go through some of the notable players...
The game was delayed approximately 1 hour due to lightning with just over 4 minutes to go in the first quarter. The Jets starters, without Favre, played the balance of the first quarter, while the Browns starters came out after the delay. Kellen Clemens started the game and played the first 2 drives, going 4-6 for 31 yards but didn't lead the team to any points.
The big standouts for the game were quarterback Brett Ratliff, who replaced Clemens and played over 2 quarters, and David Clowney, rookie wide receiver out of Virginia Tech. The duo connected on 2 long bombs for touchdowns, one for 71 yards and another for 70. Mid 4th quarter, Ratliff was 13-19 for 249 yards and the 2 TDs to Clowney. Rookie Dwight Lowery out of San Jose State provided some highlight material, returning a punt 62 yards in the 4th quarter for a TD.
Derek Anderson played only one series for Cleveland, going 4-5 for 20 yards, and one touchdown pass, a beautiful one handed catch by Braylon Edwards. Brady Quinn saw some significant time in the middle of the game, going 13-17 for 133 yards, his one blemish an Eric Barton interception.
Next week the Jets return home to face the Redskins, and we are likely to see the debut of Brett Favre as a Jet.
