NFL Betting Odds – AFC South 2009 NFL Picks Preview - Getting excited to make your NFL betting picks yet? So are we, and it’s never too early to start your research. Here is a look at the NFL lines in your offshore sportsbook for the AFC South, which will feature a fierce battle between the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans, who ended the Colts’ five-year run atop the standings.

Indianapolis Colts The Colts had their seventh season with 10 wins or more, but this year, they’ll have to do it without a familiar face leading the way. Coach Tony Dungy retired in January, giving the job to longtime assistant Jim Caldwell, so there shouldn’t be that big of a philosophy change, especially with Peyton Manning at the helm. Manning also won’t have his favorite target, Marvin Harrison, back on the team, although he still has Reggie Wayne, Anthony Gonzalez and Dallas Clark. The defense finished 11th in the league, and that was without Bob Sanders in the secondary. NFL betting odds have the Colts as a -120 favorite to regain the South crown.

Tennessee Titans The keys to the Titans’ surprise season were a defense that ranked seventh in the league, and the seventh-ranked ground game in the NFL. The defense took a huge hit, literally and figuratively, when Albert Haynesworth went to Washington for free-agent riches, but Javon Kearse and Kyle Vanden Bosch should be able to hold down the defense. LenDale White and Chris Johnson lead the rushing attack, but the Titans still have to figure out their quarterback dilemma. Do they stick with Kerry Collins, the level-headed veteran who led them last year, or Vince Young, who fell off harder than the second season of “The Wire” after an insane rookie season. NFL betting odds have the Titans at +325 to repeat, but keep an eye on the pivot position before going to your handicapping software.

Houston Texans Same story in the Lone Star State: slow start, followed by a good finish after it was too late. Houston’s offensive trio of Matt Schaub handing it off to Steve Slaton, and throwing to Andre Johnson, is one of the best in the NFL. It’s on the defense where the Texans need to step up their game as they were 22nd in the league on that side of the ball. The Texans picked up Cato June to boost their linebacking corps, and they also drafted USC standout Brian Cushing. The Texas has NFL betting odds of +350, but it’s still difficult to make them one of your sportsbook picks.

Jacksonville Jaguars The Jaguars are coming off their worst season since 2003, and now Maurice Jones-Drew will have to carry the load in the backfield with Fred Taylor gone. David Gerrard is coming off a decent season, but the Jaguars were still only 20th in offense. They added monstrous Eugene Monroe to shore up the offensive line. The Jaguars also had their worst defensive season in five years, and it all starts up front, where the Jaguars were underwhelming and got no pressure into the opposing backfield. Jacksonville is rated at +475, but to be honest, they shouldn’t even have these NFL betting odds.
