  • January 6 - King Cole, 29, pitcher who was 20-4 and led NL in ERA for 1910 Cubs, gave up Babe Ruth's first hit in 1914; inspired Ring Lardner's "Alibi Ike" stories
  • October 31 - Nicholas Young, 76, president of the National League from 1885 to 1902, league secretary from 1876-1902; managed Washington team in the National Association, also umpiring in that league
