Who am I? (8/11/06)

Baseball trivia: do you know it?

Who Am I?

You wanna talk about peaks? I had one of the best 4-year streaks ever but do YOU remember me? The Hall of Fame hasn't and probably never will, but I'm a lock for the Baseball fashion Hall of Fame

Four years in a row, I was an all star.

My numbers during my peak stretch (ages 28-31):

  • .316 - 40 - 108
  • .326 - 49 - 141
  • .314 - 47 - 113
  • .302 - 35 - 102

Even though I was a masher/slugger type

I RARELY struck out!

  • during my 'peak 4 season run', I had 31 more Home Runs than K's!
  • that's 49 HRs with only 35 K's in 573 AB's... 35 K's in 573 ABs is worth repeating.

It was with me; leather

I led my league in fielding percentage for five straight seasons.

Injuries ruined my career

I may be best remembered for bringing in a 'new' fashion style that is still carried on by my former teams and more...

Haven't figured me out yet?

Click here or HERE to see Who I am!

One last, meaningless clue...

I'll always be remembered in my White Sox as more of a symbol of Chicago than the wind.

The Hall shoudlnt remember you. It honors careers not four year hot streaks. But nice little game. Very trick, this site should have more fun stuff like this. Thanks

"Click here or HERE to see Who I am!" Or, failing that, hold your mouse over the link, and the last two words of the link show who it is... Good idea, Manny.

Didn't mean to sound sarcastic... I meant that, (a) you need not click it (b) this is a good idea. Sorry for the confusion.

"but do YOU remember me"

Last time I checked it's a little difficult for me to remember someone who's career spanned a time period 21-35 years before I was born. Although, I've never heard of him either. :-)

By the way, this article made realize that O!F goes beyond sports. Oooooooh! Ted Klus-zew-ski! Not scary. Ooooooooh! Ted Ka-czyn-ski! Freakin' get out of there.

I don't think you'd wanna roll-up on Ted Kluszewski's ghost... I say he still has O!F... 49HRs-35K's will always be the record I wanna see broken...

Do you think he should be a Hall of Famer? From looking at his stats I don't.

Hell, No! He's just a statisical wonder and a sad victim of injuries. I like him, but I'm not irreversably brain damaged.

The Unibomber should not be in the hall of fame.

Hey, character doesn't matter to most people on this site. It's the success of the career and the Unibomber was VERY successful at what he did for a long time before he was....um... forced into retirement. So by a lot of Armchair GM standards, he should be in some sort of hall of fame.

He's the reason why Vests are a part of baseball fashion. If you're team wears a vest, blame Big Klu.

"Big Klu" was the last MLB player to hit more than 40 home runs while striking out less than 40 times in the same season: 1955. That's pretty darn impressive

Here comes the can of worms... Joe DiMaggio is overrated. It needs to be realized, finally. He's the Derek Jeter of his time. Hitting streaks are overrated and he couldn't even keep Marilyn a whole year. He was OVER RATED like none other. I'm not saying he wasn't popular, but history did him favors; he wasn't as GREAT as y'all want to believe. Ted Williams was 10 times the player "Joltin' Joe" ever dreamed of being...

you're going to judge a man with a .325 lifetime b.a. because he couldn't keep a promiscuous poster girl as a wife for more than a year? hitting streaks are overrated? care to explain, manny?
