Hello all. This is my first post her. It is cross-published on my Wordpress blog, My Name is Willie. I also recently started a Big 12 blog called Fifth Down and Goal. If you enjoy what you read below, check these out. If you don't enjoy it ... well, I don't really know what to say. Good luck in life! Now, on to the good stuff...
Just about 26 hours to go until the premiere event of the summer. Forget your MLB All-Star game, leave your NFL training camps behind, it's NBA Draft time! With the age limit laws now a year old, we're looking at a deep and talented draft, one in which solid players like Al Thornton, Nick Young and Acie Law IV might not go until the middle-to-late part of the first round.
But my personal favorite part of this week has been the ridiculous trade rumors. Yesterday, Kevin Garnett was - if you listen to the "experts" - on his way to Los Angeles. Last week, it was Beantown or Bust. Now, he appears to be on his way to Phoenix, as part of what can only be described as a blockbuster deal.
These are far from the only trade rumors being discussed. Names like Monta Ellis, Luke Ridnour and Shawn Marion are being tossed around like one of Mike Tyson's girlfriends (classy, I know).
So I got to thinking: What are some trades I want to see? 'Tis the season. Everything is on the table, so check out below and see what you agree with.
The T'Wolves trade Kevin Garnett to Phoenix, who trades Shawn Marion to Boston, who trades pick No. 5 and Sebastian Telfair to Minnesota : KG will be traded before the start of the season, and possibly before the start of the draft. He has put up with Minnesota long enough, and yet he has made his desires to play for a winner known in such a nice manner. If the Suns can pick him up and NOT give up Amare Stoudemire, then that would be the coup of all coups. I want to see how Marion does without Steve Nash, and I want to see Al Horford slip to No. 5 and watch Celts fans get pissed because they didn't hold on to the pick.
L.A. Lakers trade Kobe Bryant to Chicago for Ben Gordon, P.J. Brown, and any pick the Bulls stole away from the Knicks since the Eddy Curry trade : All right, I don't really know if Chicago still owns any of the Knicks' picks. But Kobe has been trying to live up to Michael Jordan since he was 17 years old. Actually, poetic justice would be if LA traded him to Charlotte to be with MJ. Charlotte is also where Kobe refused to play when he was drafted by the Hornets in the 1996 draft. So really, just disregard that above trade.
Utah Jazz releases Andrei Kirilenko, signs former Chicago Bear Tank Johnson : The reason is simple - would you rather have one AK-47 or eight of them? I'm sure that Tank has at least that many...
Toronto trades rock to L.A. Clippers for paper and scissors : It would be interesting to see Bryan Colangelo, one of the smartest general managers in the league, get into trade negotiations with Donald Sterling, one of the worst owners in history. I'm pretty sure BC could pull this off just by saying, "But Donald, rock beats everything." Donald's reply: "Ooooooh ... let's make a deal."
I love NBA offseason talk! Come by MNIW during the draft tomorrow and check out my first live-blog ever, NBA Draft style. Who knows - it might not even suck!
