Week 10: Start/Sit Mailbag

Justin asks in his weekly series of quick-fire matchups:

G Martinez   v   D Hagan   v   S Young: I would go with Young in this situation. Henry is hurting and the other two players have too many questions surrounding the QBs throwing them the ball. That said, make sure that Travis Henry is still banged up prior to the game Sunday. If I had to choose one of the WRs I would go with Hagan.

Chambers v Smith v Jones pick 2: I would go with Smith and Jones. The Indy D showed its ability to shut down the pass last week, which does not bode well for San Diego’s passing attack.

D Bowe v J Jones: I would go with Jones because of the matchup. This is a golden matchup for Favre and Co, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them put up 400 yards in the air.

Jennings v Holmes: Jennings is my pick for best WR this week. He matches up too well against the Vikings not to play.

Branch v Bowe: I would go with Branch, but make sure you confirm that he is playing and taking full snaps. The 49ers have struggled the last few weeks.

Romo     v  Anderson: Romo this week. Anderson is playing the hotter defense and I’m not sold on the Giants D.

Evans    v   Holmes: This is a very tough one. Both players should have great weeks, but I am going with Holmes because he has been more consistent.

Jennings v  Bowe: Jennings for the reasons outlines above.

Witten   v   Clark: Witten is a must-start at this points, unless you have Antonio Gates.

KC-D    v    Ari-D: I would go with the KC D because it has been very consistent this year and is probably going against a backup QB.

Stover    v  Rackers: I would go with Stover because the Bengals D is so terrible and the Baltimore offense can’t score in the red zone.

Stover    v  Hanson: Hanson has the better leg and is on a roll. Ride the hot foot.

Crosby   v  Rackers: Crosby is my #1 kicker this week.

K Jones v  S Young for the rest of the year: Jones has looked good and Shanahan is never to be trusted.

K Jones v AllDay  I know sounds silly, but tough GB-D, and I know AP does well against tough match-ups. Do you ever sit him? Although I'm sure the answer is no, wanted to ask?

All Day must be played every game regardless of his matchup. He is too good and dangerous to be on any bench.

Thanks as always Jam Master J,

Weekly Reader Corey writes:

I absolutely steamrolled this week; highest scoring in all of my leagues. But as always there are some rough spots I need to smooth out for the week. For one of my public leagues I have Brady and Griese as my QBs. With Brady on his bye and and Griese not playing so well I was considering picking up a QB just to fill in this week. JP Losman is up against the Dolphins. Do you think it would be worth dropping Griese for Losman?

J. Chatman Vs. S. Young Vs. K. Keith

Thanks, Corey

I’m glad to hear you steamrolled! Your dilemma is a tough one because both the teams those quarterbacks play are terrible at run defense, so there will likely be a lot of running. That said, I would go with JP, only because Griese's team has a better defense so the game may end up as a blowout. With the Miami v. Bills game, I think it will be a shootout. I would go with Losman.

As for your start/sit, I go with Chatman because he is going against a mediocre run defense and will be getting all the carries. Both Keith and Young should be sharing carries.

Take it easy,

Shimmering T.

The always creative Jam writes:

Hey Shimsizzle!

Got 2 dilemmas:

I need 1 WR:  Anquan Boldin, Torry Holt, Chad Johnson

1 RB:  Brandon Jacobs, Steven Jackson,  (I also have Priest Holmes..but I dont want to take a chance playing him)

Thanks for the help!

Jam

Hey Jam,

Good to hear from you again. I’ll add you to the list of three frequent e-mailers along with Corey and Justin. Maybe we should start a Facebook group? Just Kidding. On to your questions…

I would go with Holt this week against a terrible Saints secondary. I see the Saints going up big and the Rams trying to catch up through the air, which is the perfect situation for a fantasy WR—prevent-like defense and an all-passing attack. After that I would go with Boldin, with Chad having too many questions.

As for the RB, I would go with Jacobs. The Saints haven’t given up a 100-yard rusher since Week 1 and news reports are stating that Jackson will have his carries limited. Besides, we don’t even know if he’ll make it through the first quarter with his luck this year. Jacobs is the safer and more productive pick.

Thanks for your question,

- Shimsizzling T.
