[edit] Admin

Yes, I'd love to be an admin, thanks very much! (sorry for the slow response, real life in the way of late)
Xinoph 12:21, 7 March 2006 (EST)

I'd like to put the Hockey Leagues Template on the NHL page, but I still seem to be unable to edit that page even with my shining new admin privileges.Xinoph 13:56, 7 March 2006 (EST)
Maybe because I'm only a bureaucrat and not a sysop? Xinoph 14:42, 7 March 2006 (EST)

[edit] College Sports Project

Thanks for wanting to lend a hand. I found out about the site through Wikipedia, Awrigh01 messaged my Wikipedia page and I used the link before they called it spam. I wish I knew of a way to get the word out about this place. I like it because it still feels like building everything from the ground up.Thecrookedcap 00:12, 14 March 2006 (EST)

[edit] New York Mets/April

How did you input the box score. I looked at the "source code" and it appeared to be a lot of work. Is there any easier way you used or do you have to type everything in? I ask because I am doing the Atlanta Braves page. Thanks --Bball3345 16:37, 3 April 2006 (EST)

Thanks, that worked out well.--Bball3345 17:03, 3 April 2006
(EST)

[edit] Wondering where to get sources

I could help accruing a ton of information, particularly for the MLB and NBA players, if you wish. I notice a lot of the biography information is missing, if you could give me a generally-accepted source to find this information (particularly concerning NBA debut dates, salary or selection) then I could help out filling in this information. Just wondering. Bobo 22:12, 3 May 2006 (EST)

That's not a bad idea, come to think of it. Tell you what, I'll scour each NBA draft (and if necessary get new tables from Wikipedia) and work from them from 2005 downwards to the last one (currently 1984, though I'm sure you're working on it)..
Time to start working on it, I think, as soon as I've started work on my project. I'll get onto it. Thank you. Bobo 06:56, 4 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] That's fine

You're absolutely right, I wouldn't want to confuse that with the other two or three times we'll win 14-3 this season. :-)
Cheers, Xinoph 18:58, 9 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] Baseball Hall of Famers

I created a template for their easy labeling, and to give them the honor deserved. Category:Baseball Hall of Fame has instructions. --DNL 04:58, 11 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] Game Recaps

Excellent Idea! Can we make this a button on the main page, though, along with "News" and "Opinions"? Xinoph 05:29, 17 May 2006 (EST)

If we're doing recaps as a special page, it would be nice to do series/game previews as a special page as well; there have been a bunch of those lately, from myself and others. Also, I really think game recap articles should have the score in the article title - that's the way they're often published on sports networks, and it makes sense to do so here as well.Xinoph 18:32, 18 May 2006 (EST)

Glad to hear it was a test, I figured something was up. Xinoph 08:08, 21 May 2006 (EST)

Hey, why isn't there a "Vote" button on game recap pages, as there are on news pages? We should be able to recognize good recaps! Xinoph 08:15, 21 May 2006 (EST)

All good points. I know I would vote based solely on writing, but you're right, a lot of people wouldn't do that, in all likelihood. Xinoph 08:31, 21 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] few quick comments

  • Are you stopping the featured player section? Those were some really good bios for the players
  • I'll work on the AL East schedule/recap pages. I'll probably be able to get them done by the end of the weekend
  • Does this site have the ability to post polls? If not I was thinking about getting a few people together for a kind of voting committee to vote on things like MVP selections, All-Star games, and top ten lists (like the top ten catchers thing) --Steaksammich

[edit] Cooperstown Comment

You got it, thanks a million. This won't happen again. You can probably get rid of my other two comments as well. Thanks again. - Davis21wylie 14:28, 29 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] Stats Template

I've been adding stats for various NBA players, but I can't get Larry Johnson's to come up right... What should I type in the "name=" for players who have the same name as other (earlier) players? - Davis21wylie 21:24, 30 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] Boxscores and Copyright

I was looking to include some boxscore information in game recaps but I am uncertain as to the copyright status of replicating a boxscore from a place liek MLB.com or ESPN.com. Is there some generally accepted policy on these things that ArmchairGM uses? -Angels Fan 21:09, 31 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] User Stats

Thanks for the explanation. It still leaves me confused, however. To work out a score for each category, you are basically using the formula: no. users - rank +1 in each section. That should still mean that tied people should have the same combined rank, shouldn't it? Essentially, you are still doing the same thing... it is based on the ranking, because no.users and +1 is the same for both of them. So whether a no. is minused then added, the rankings should still add up to be the same number, shouldn't they? Sorry about this, this is probably my flawed logic. Alex Holowczak

[edit] Stats

Thanks for the clarification, I forgot that ties would have that effect!

[edit] Templates

If the template for player pages were changed, would that affect only the new players generated or would that mess up the players who already have pages made? If someone changed the template to include things like scouting report and a transaction heading would that mess up the pages that already have those things?

-- User:Steaksammich

[edit] Templates

I was trying to create a "Main Article" template like Wikipedia has... I think I worked it out after, like, 20 tries -- the Phil Mickelson page is the only one that uses it (I was linking to the news article about his U.S. Open flop). Thanks for offering your help, by the way. - Davis21wylie 09:51, 19 June 2006 (EST)

[edit] England

Yeah sure, I can put Snooker, Cricket, Soccer (i.e. English Leagues - Bobo is working on that...), Formula One, Rugby as the sports, and put players in each sport on the page in the way that you have. I'm about to get help from Bobo and a friend of his who knows lots about rugby, Jemma who knows about F1, and Hillsm can help with soccer if he and Jemma learn the wiki-language. They'll help fill out some of the red links.

Ok I've done it -> England <- Could there be a Game Recap section on it purely for English sports? Also, I can see that in future, there will probably be more teams, i.e. for Rugby when it's done, or for other Football teams. Is there a way to increase the number of articles on the main page (because the Page Right will go down further (I saw something saying "count=8" Is it that that needs to be increased?))?
Also, shall I do the same for Ireland, Wales & Scotland as they are pretty much the same in terms of golf, snooker, tennis etc., but with minor adjustments to soccer and rugby.
To put players in the "English born players" category, do I just go to that player's page and put in (open double square brackets)Category:English born players(close double square brackets)?
I just noticed that the bottom two pages on the England Page Right are wider than the others. How do I make them the same width? Alex Holowczak (my talk page)
Alas, it still has the problem (I think I did it when adding something), yet I see no dissimilarity to Canada. What's wrong with it? (i.e. the Game Recaps and Sport Events in England are wider)

[edit] The ArmchairGM Hall of Fame - an idea for the page

I remember that when it was last discussed, you said that "you didn't have the technology" to do it yet. I think I have an idea. On an article, you are able to vote for it. Why not have two of these on the page, and then you can click on either to cast your vote. This will help you to change your vote too should you wish (i.e. circumstances change - i.e. the player has just been caught taking steroids). You can then have a regular opinion article, with someone making a case, and then a list of pros and cons that can just be a two column table. As was suggested, when the number reaches whatever it reaches, it can then go into the Hall of Fame, like an opinion would before it is promoted. I don't know, but could the no votes also be taken into consideration, i.e. if the count is greater it should remain out of it. That part (with the proposed tier system) I couldn't figure out in my head. Any thoughts? Alex Holowczak (my talk page)

That was the idea - one for voting in, one for voting out. Then take the count for in (like a promoted opinion) to put it in the Hall, but reject it if Vote In > Vote Out. Alex Holowczak My fault - I see what you mean.
How about if we just have one vote box then, and just say if you think he should be in, vote. If not, don't vote. Then just have five different levels of Promotion, representing each tier? N.B. Progress may come to a halt shortly for a couple of hours, I need to go out. I'll be back on it when I get in.
That's true... Ok, I've done the Player List page (Draft 3). Vote In and Out can be linked to to the Template of Draft 2. Draft 1 is the Pros & Cons Page Template. But how do we get the system to work in tiers? I don't know how to get a page to link to both the vote in and out pages. I could go it for when the vote goes above a number, but not take the negative votes into account. Do you know? Alex Holowczak

In terms of a user putting down a choice for an article, can the "create" bar be modified to include "Hall of Fame Candidate"? Then you would come to a page where you can edit the pros & cons table, and write an article if you choose to. E.g. the page can have lots of rows and two columns of boxes, each of which correspond to a box on the table. Is that possible? Alex Holowczak

I just had a brain wave... We have + and - comment scores together on a page, and a system run by User:Pean to add it up. Couldn't we use something similar, but not make it a comment/make the boxes bigger? Alex Holowczak

Another possibilty...? Could we have a page (Armchair GM Hall of Fame Main Page), like the England page I did, as a forum where people post articles for who they want to go to the vote. Then ask them to vote in the corner. (We could make a page and only allow HOF Nominations - Page Right can link to the voting page etc.) Then an admin can add any player that gets enough of those votes, and then we could edit the page on Draft 3 and protect it from being sabotaged. (That can link to the HOF Main Page). That way we wouldn't have complete duffers clogging up the voting by some stupid user. We can have the comments on the article page as a discussion page, and leave the voting pages simply for voting. Alex Holowczak

[edit] Showdown

Mm. It's alright, I'm sure he'll return (I think he won...) Any progress on getting the two vote boxes on one page? Alex Holowczak

[edit] Anthony Carter

I had actually already made a page for Anthony Carter the NFL player...it's under Anthony Carter (football). I just forgot to make a disambig page. You could probably delete mine then if you wanted to. --Corey Kempf 12:11, 27 June 2006 (EST)

[edit] HOF Idea

I think it's a good idea, I just think that if that was done, it would be dominated by players from US Sports, and there would be nothing of F1 drivers, Snooker players etc. (Because they wouldn't know who I am talking about), but if we had the two boxes, an article, and pros & cons, from a personal point of view, I could get more snooker players in, that arguably deserve it. But say if it's Ruth v Joe Davis, Ruth will obviously win. It would take me 1,000 goes with Davis to get him in, because of Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey players getting in the way.

I think it's a good idea though. The only change to it that I'd make is that you have 8 not 16, then have two days per round. Then you can make him the "Hall of Famer of the week." That way it would take years to get to 1,000. That could help the tier system too - once you have 16 Hall of Famers, have another tourney with those 16, and then Last 16 can be on Tier 1, Q Finalists on Tier 2, S Finalists on Tier 3, Runner Up on Tier 4, Winner on Tier 5.

I think it would work, but I'm not sure if it would work better than a public vote. Some people may not think they are having their say. If they have something to contribute, they may feel left out. Alex Holowczak

P.S. The idea of waiting for technology to develop is confusing... Is the lingo evolving, due to cmoputer techies creating different things all the time? Or are people (Pean, I guess) creating them specifically for this site?

[edit] All-Time Teams

I was looking at the All-Time teams and it occurred to me that we may need a way to differentiate between the different sports. I only bring it up because I may want to start doing some NFL or college All-Time Teams as the season approachs. Perhaps the category can be All-Time Baseball Teams or All-Time Football Teams. Chachi

[edit] Thanx

K... thanx... no prob... still learning :) Will go back & correct then... hope ya don't mind but I'm kinda adopting the Chicago Cubs & Detroit Tigers...

[edit] Minor League page

Rob - How would I change the name of the Detroit Tiger's AAA minor league team Toledo Mud Hens on the Tigers team page? On the Page under minor league affiliates (sp), it's listed as Toldeo Mudhens however, all the links I created & template page that I also created it's Toledo Mud Hens (2 words not 1)... I even verified the 2 word spelling on the Tigers official site... on the Tigers page, it's just a minor edit that needs to be done: space between Mud & Hens and the H needs to be capitalized... can you help? Thanx... Demonboy

[edit] Got another Minor League edit

Sorry Rob - But I need another edit for a Detroit Tiger minor league team.... on the Tigers page, for the AA affiliate, it's listed as Erie SeaWolves but it needs to be Erie Seawolves.... the w just needs to be lower case... thanx yet again... Demonboy

[edit] TYVM!

Thanx... now I know & knowing is 1/2 the battle :) Sorry to keep bugging ya for that :)

[edit] Template Help

Rob - I hate to keep asking you but coding issues... but when/if you have time, can you please take a look at Template:AA Team Navigation for me... all the South teams are off line... like all the teams in Eastern League South are ok... but the teams in Southern League South are out of alignment with the Eastern League and the teams in Texas League South are even worse off alignment... I've looked at the coding but I can't see anything that would cauze that... I try to be a perfectionist on these things - but this is driving me crazy! lol Thanx.. Demonboy

[edit] Denver Page

Hey, thanks. I really like what you did, I tried to incorporate yours, check it out, tell me what you think... I really like the whole standings/off season team thing.

[edit] Bracket Template

I was browsing the site one day and saw that there was a templete for brackets, like the NCAA tourney bracket, and there was an 8-team and 4-team bracket, and I'm trying to find the tmeplate, I cannot find it anywhere, I searched everywhere on the site for it. For some reason your name comes to mind when I think of it, I don't know if you created them or what, but do you happen to know where they are located at?? Madproof9 00:19, 6 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] NFL Team Nicknames

I wrote a draft "NFL Team Nicknames" on my page, but when I went back to it, the link went red. If it was deleted, it would still be blue, but with no information. I assume it was moved therefore. So you know where it was moved to? It's fair enough it moved, I changed what it was about half way through. Alex Holowczak

It's okay, I found it!
No problem, just try not to give me a heart attack next time...

[edit] Praise

:blushes: Aww, thanks man! You too. I actually enjoy doing the administrative stuff (like wikifying articles and moving bad titles) as much as creating opinions. The only thing I don't like about this site is when people attack me unnecessarily for personal reasons, but I suppose as long as that's still a minority I can deal. :-)
Xinoph 05:59, 7 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Encyclopaedia

Yeah sure, I could do that with Snooker as that's done in terms of the encycopaedic stuff. I would have to do F1 and Cricket, perhaps Soccer in future, as I know Bobo is about to add stuff like players to cricket and soccer. Just note I'll spell mine differently! Alex Holowczak

[edit] New Admin?

Hey Roblefko,
I was thinking that Coreyisarealboy probably deserves to be an admin. He's put in a lot of hard work on the site, and has generally been an upstanding member of the community. His MLB Power Ranking articles are excellent, as just one example.
Xinoph 06:20, 7 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] ArmchairGMHOF

Just wondering if we have the technology yet? Do you have an idea of when we will? Alex Holowczak

Ok, I'll explore other potential avenues.

[edit] Explanation

Why not have a forum, e.g. ArmchairGM Hall of Fame Page, where you write opinions of you think should go in. If the "good stuff" is ordered in terms on no. of votes, rather than "Published Date", then you would have the tiered effect (sort of). We just need to make sure that people only click vote as a vote for the nominee to go into the Hall, and that each opinion has the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame Opinion tag (this way, it wouldn't go on the Main Page). What do you think? N.B. The no. of votes to become "good stuff" would have to be set to something like 20, or something like that. If an article gets into the "good stuff" category, then it will go to the vote (when we have the technology - the preliminary stage can take place at any time).

The next bit can work in two ways:

  1. The left red link can contain a name, linking to an article containing a pros and cons table, and a vote box. (This would have to be protected.) This then links to the red link on the right of that page to create the tier system. How that works, I don't know.
  2. The red link links to a page of comments, saying the name of the nominee. (It would be better, but non-essential for the comments to not go towards the comment score for the Top Users). We use the +/- to work out a score (this can work as the two vote boxes). Then link that to the page on the right. Again, I wouldn't know how you'd do that. This is my prefered method.
This entire stage may not be necessary, what do you think?
And I did set it up! Click here. I figured the link out, I just typed "votes", and it seemed to work...
Ok, I'll wait. I just have very limited patience, hence my eagerness! With the two vote boxes, can it be set up so that a separate page can work out which has the highest +/- difference? I like the forum idea, so when it's done I think it would be good to link everything from there so that people can discuss each person without doing so in the "ballot box" so to speak. Alex Holowczak

[edit] Showdowns

The setup seems faulty on them, look at the main page - you'll see. Have I made a glaring mistake? Alex Holowczak

[edit] Lundqvist

Thanks for fixing it up Rob, Appreciate it JuTMSY4

[edit] Schools' Bowl Histories

Hey, Rob, the encyclopedias are looking really cool. I am inquiring about your opinion on something. For the college football encyclopedia, you link to the school's histories, and I've been working on individual schools' bowl histories. I have been putting them under the football portion of the schools' site, perhaps I should put them in the history section. What do you think? --Corey Kempf 21:11, 9 July 2006 (EST)

We could do that, that might also allow us to do NCAA Basketball Tournament histories as well for each school with Basketball History pages. But then again I don't want to completely render the schools' history pages useless. Do you think there would be conflict with those pages if we did them separately? --Coreyisarealboy 07:36, 10 July 2006 (EST)
Yeah I can definitely help with that. --Coreyisarealboy 08:54, 10 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Team News Opinions

Let's just move the MLB one to a more generic name. There's no need to segregate it by league, is there? I just didn't think ahead. --DNL 10:56, 11 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] NHL Schedules

The NHL is releasing their schedule for next season tomorrow, and I was planning on putting it up on the site, however, the NHL Schedule page is still showing the calendar for 2005-2006, I was hoping maybe you could change that, because I really don't know how... or you could tell me how and I'll do do it. Thanks, Madproof9 17:04, 11 July 2006 (EST)

Cool, thanks. Take your time, the schedule isn't out until tomorrow anyway, but I appreciate it. Madproof9 17:09, 11 July 2006 (EST)

NHL enslaplopedia, haha, I like that. That's looking good, I like how that's all organized. Thanks for fixing that calendar, I'll start putting the schedule up as soon as it's released. Madproof9 17:21, 11 July 2006 (EST)

That's fine, thanks. I was trying to change it because the date is wrong on there, it's October 4, not the 10th. I initially wrote the 10th, then this morning i changed it to the 4th when the sked came out, but it doesn't seem to want to change on the main page. Any idea's why?

Nevermind, it says the '4th" now. I was talking about the main NHL schedule page, but I guess when you changed it so only today is showing, it updated it, so it's all good.

[edit] Thanks

[edit] Snooker Encyclopedia

Can you make that look like the others, then add it to the others? Alex Holowczak

Ok, I have turned them all into categories. Can it be done now? Alex Holowczak
Yeah, it's good. Thanks. Couldn't it go on the bar at the top, e.g. Main - MLB - NHL - NFL etc. and have Snooker at the end? - On a separate note, if you look at 1950 Indianapolis 500, I am in the process of doing that for every F1 race. Since there are a lot of them, and it was only part of F1 from 1950-1960, could it be possible for the same format to be used on the other Indianapolis 500s? I don't know who made the Motor Racing section, so can you point me in his direction, as he may perhaps do it? This would help, as I ought to concentrate on the 10 to 20 races for 57 seasons of F1, and it is going to take ages! Alex Holowczak

[edit] Arizona Diamondbacks

Ok, I've moved the Rosters to their own pages and included that category link. Thanks. MikeBriggs 11:59, 13 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Weekly Column

Hey, thanks for choosing me, I'd love to do it. Did my Thursday Rant bring this on?? Well, whatever did it, I appreciate your consideration and just give me the day and I'll do it. Take Care, --Ufgators

[edit] Thanks

I'll respond to everything, below... Alex Holowczak 09:11, 14 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Indianapolis 500

Thanks for sorting that out, I should get my head around it. Alex Holowczak

[edit] Friday Fryer

Yeah, I read it. It would work, perhaps...

  • Monday - I am a cpcp's column
  • Tuesday - Manny Stiles' column
  • Wednesday - Caption Contest
  • Thursday - Ufagtors' Rant
  • Friday - Friday Fryer
  • Saturday - ??
  • Sunday - Sports Quiz (occasional)

So the days (from Monday to Saturday) can switch around if needs be, but we may need one more day (particularly since user numbers drop of noticeably at weekends). I think the idea is definitely a good one, and it would work, as long as everyone knows what's going on.

Perhaps DRE-LO can do his Fantasy Sport Stock Up/Down each week? He can alternate sports - at the end of the football season, move on to Hockey, Basketball e.g.

[edit] Fantasy Sport League

For the forthcoming NFL Season, User:Ufgators and myself came up with the idea of using yahoo to run a Fantasy Football League. We thought this could be part of the weekly rotation, so to speak, and if Corey wrote an NFL Stock Up/Down each week, and perhaps a little report on how the League is going, I think it would be a good addition to the rotation. Ufgators is planning to write an article to get everyone else here involved in an ArmchairGM Fantasy Football League, which he would run from yahoo. What do you think? Alex Holowczak 09:44, 14 July 2006 (EST)

Oops... Alex Holowczak 10:08, 14 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] All-Time Teams

I could try to do the All-Time Team. I'm not really sure what that Fantasy Sport Stock Up/Down thing is, but I wouldn't mind doing it. I plan on doing Power Rankings for football so I guess I could do something similar for players and what not...I'd have to take a day other than Monday/Tuesday since I put the Power Rankings out those days. It's possible I could take suggestions too for the All-Time Teams since my imagination runs thin at times. --Coreyisarealboy 09:49, 14 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Weekly Column

I did two different sports columns for my college paper, I did a short one called "Highs and Lows in College and Pros" where I took five or so story stories (Some big some completely random" and rated them as a high or low (this was extemely popular and I was forced to adapt it to include everything when I became editor of the paper) and I also did one called the Sports Tangent which was basically a long rant about one subject. I'd be willing to do either. -I am a cpcp 09:56, 14 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Joe Montana

Hey, thanks for adding the fan page so quickly. It was so fast that it was kinda spooky, actually. I think you might actually be a bot... (Just kidding!) - Davis21wylie 09:28, 19 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Ottawa Page

Thanks for the edit on the Ottawa CFL page (when you do it). Although, as you know, I am a Stamps fan. I just thought that it would be good to get all of the pages done, so that we wouldn't have to do this next year if/when Ottawa gets the team back together. However, if rumor holds true, a team page might have to be made for another team anyway (Nova Scotia Huskies). Also, I seem to be the only one interested in the CFL, judging from the fan tags. I still plan on writing about the CFL, but I was wondering if people even cared if the league was covered or not. Just an idle question, I guess. You can always email me too, if that is easier for you, at rockout.blogspot@comcast.net.Erooster 13:45, 19 July 2006 (EST)

You have way too much time on your hands (to be making all this stuff). I didn't notice that you added the dictionary, but I am glad that you did and I will add to the CFL dictionary as I have time. I don't have the luxury of working behind a desk, so I am on here before or after work. I had previously thought of this (dictionary) as a good tool to those that may be interested, but don't admit to it. Thanks for all of your help.Erooster 15:20, 19 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] CFL Encyclopedia

I was going to ask you for help on the dictionary entry for the encyclopedia, but I see that you already did it. Thank you, again.Erooster 17:44, 19 July 2006 (EST)

I plan to do that as well. But, I just felt that a dictonary catagory was warranted for the encyclopedia. There are several terms used in the CFL that most non-fans wouldn't understand without it.Erooster 18:01, 19 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Tomorrow

Hey, I just wanted to make sure that tomorrow is my day for the weekly column, because I didn't see any columns today or yesterday. --Ufgators

[edit] Premiership Rosters

Try www.premierleague.com. I believe the "rosters" are there, but if not, search Google for each team's official website, they'll definitely be there. Also, User:Thecrookedcap and some of my friends have already started, so you ought to check what's been done already before ploughing into it. Alex Holowczak 11:07, 20 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Posting Question

I don't know who to ask on this, so I thought that I would try you. There is a feature in Blogger where I can write in MS Word and send it to Blogger. Is there something similar for ACGM, or would it even be possible? Just a thought.Erooster 15:41, 20 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] More CFL Pages

I was wondering if we, or you, should create pages for the CFL failed teams. i.e. the American teams.Erooster 14:14, 21 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] More CFL pages Part 2

I went in and listed the 'Defunct Canadian Football Teams' and created pages for those teams. You may want to go back and edit those pages to the same format/template that you used on the other league teams. I did not plan on making fan tags for these teams (since they are no more), but could do so if you guys want me to do so.Erooster 15:39, 21 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Football Fan Tags

I have done all but two, I'll have to look at the others as I can't be 100% certain of the colours. They don't have the 3 character approach, as we simply don't use them over here.

You were saying you were doing the team squads - it may be a good idea to wait until September 1, when the transfer deadline ensures that the teams will stay the same until January, when the "transfer window" opens for the month.

Finally, I may not spend much time here over forthcoming weeks, as my computer is only working sparadically, and this is the first time it's worked in days. We are looking to buy a new one, but it may take a month or so. But the F1 stuff I've started will be finished, if not immediately, then in the long term. Alex Holowczak 08:32, 22 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Thanks

Oh man, I appreciate it, I've always had that problem! I did fix it, though, by linking to the clubhouse page instead (it shows up, right?). How did you know I was editing LastRow's page? [edit] Incredible

Hey, just wanted to give you and DNL big props for the new article! Also, on that article "Tim Duncan has a personality", I had to edit the article so there weren't a million curse words on it, and then he wrote the article twice on the same page. Then, he wrote a whole new article about KG on the bottom. He's spamming the website not with comments, but with articles. Just wanted to make you aware of it. Keep up the good work, as I said, I loved the last article! --Ufgators

[edit] Re:Soccer

I'm actually a fan of the new look. I do have a few suggestions, although I may just do it myself. I think there should be a category page to list all club teams from a nation. There are teams of note that are in the lower divisions (the most obvious case being Juventus in Italy). The other being a main page section for international competitions placed below the leagues for things like the World Cup, UEFA Champions League, etc. Let me know what you may need help with. Thecrookedcap 09:25, 26 July 2006 (EST)

Thanks a bunch. I was having fits trying to figure out how to put it back to how it should look. Thecrookedcap 18:37, 26 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] New Page: Australian Rules Football

On the advisement of DNL, I tried to creat a new page for Australian Rules Football (AFL). But, I can't get the paged named. It shows "Create New Page" at the top. Could you help me? Could you add either AFL or Aussie Football on the main page? I invited some Aussies to the site, try to make it easy for them.Erooster 21:36, 26 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Re:UEFA Champions League

I screwed up a bit. I was putting together a Champions League page and accidentally replaced the finals results page (which was going to go in its history section) instead. I can't roll it back since I'm the only author. It just needs to be revert one edit back. Thecrookedcap 11:32, 27 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Box problem

I copied User:Thecrookedcap's table and it works well with one on the page. But why doesn't it let me put the two boxes together, e.g. at the bottom of 1950 Drivers' Championship Standings? Ideally, Drivers would be on the left, and the Constructors' would be on the right. The templates can be found at Template:F1 Drivers' Championship and Template:F1 Constructors' Championship if you need them. Alex Holowczak 07:54, 31 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] More Template Help lol

Rob, I created a template (Template:Chicago Cubs Managers) my problem is, if you read it the way it is right now, it's a little hard to read... i.e. if you want to see the year(s) & record that Jim Frey had as a manager, it's a little hard to line up the columns to see those stats... I thought about putting a line in between the managers but with as many as there are, it just didn't look right... is there a way to create a line of space in between the managers??

By the way, that template is linked to Category:Chicago Cubs History and that's the page where it's really hard to read because of the tighter space...

Thanx... Demonboy

[edit] YES!!

Perfect! That'll definately work! Wasn't sure exactly what to do with that or how to do something... for the last several weeks (and will be for about 6 more weeks ugh!) I've been on the road with work and working off of a laptop so it was very difficult for me to read it correctly... Now I know what to do on similar template's I plan on creating... you the man! Thanx a bunch... Demonboy

[edit] Player stats

Who handles the input of players stats or can it be done by anyone? If so how? Reason is - since I'm adding a lot of players in baseball (minor leaguers & former players), I'm running into quiet a few of players with the same name and of course, they need to be seprated somehow on the stats...

also, along those same lines - how can I differentiate 2 (or more) current players with the same name but different sports? I was thinking about putting in a middle name on 1 but I couldn't find a middle name for either player... for instance, there's a James Hall in the minors but there's also a James Hall in football... that one is easy - use Jimmy instead of James... but that's just an example... Demonboy

[edit] Players missing stats

Rob - How can I input stats for players? So far, I've found 3 baseball players (Albert Spaulding - played 1871-78, Hal O'Hagen - played 1892 & 1902 and Grover Alexander - played 1911-30) that do not have any stats attributed to t hem. I'm more than willing to do it myself... just need to know how... thanx

Found one of the problems... Al Spauling... last name was wrong... I tried to move the page from Al Spaulding to Al Spalding but got an error that it could not submit the move form - ugh!
Was able to correct Al's... there was aleady a page created DOH!Lots of players - eyes must've been playing tricks on me and I saw soething that wasn't there...
Oh my god, I'm an idiot!! Corrected Grover Alexander's now too... Ya know, I should learn how to read... stats listed under Pete (alexape01) go flippin figure! Now to see if I could figure out Hal O'Hagen... sorry to keep pestering ya...

[edit] defensive stats

hey, i just updated jason taylor's player page. i have his defensive stats ready, but i dont know how to post them into a table and make it look clean. i looked at other player pages, and i see that there is a wiki type code and it puts in the stats automatically, but i dont know if there is one for defensive ends? if so, how would i type it? (i checked "reggie white" to see if there was a way to do so before i asked) also, check out the new fantag i made, about "stump the schwab" :). take care - Ufgators

yikes, i'll have to look into that. i'll look around for ways to make a table. do you know of any defensive end pages that were made by a user?

[edit] Naming Conventions

Players in the same sport - I'm not sure. For Tony Armas I used the positions as the defining charactistic (Tony Armas_(baseball_outfield; Tony Armas_(baseball_pitcher) but that can get confusing quickly (especially if they play the same or similar position). Maybe something along the lines of Tony Armas (baseball 1976) and Tony Armas (baseball 1999). Name (sport first year played). MikeBriggs 10:14, 16 August 2006 (EST)

[edit] F1 Stats

I made the Template Template:F1 Driver based mainly on wikipedia's version. I want to put Farina's stats in on Giuseppe Farina's page. I have typed in {{F1 Driver|Giuseppe Farina}} on the Farina page and that shows, which is fine. But how do I get the stats in? Alex Holowczak 04:06, 20 August 2006 (EST)

Thankyou. I followed your pattern, but on some it didn't work, how come? Giuseppe Farina Also, I want to put {{Team Italy}} on the nationality, but when I did that it didn't work. How can that work? Alex Holowczak 04:34, 20 August 2006 (EST)
How do I put an opinion clubhouse on, e.g. Giuseppe Farina? It was done seemingly automatically on the snooker profiles... Alex Holowczak 11:43, 20 August 2006 (EST)
Thanks. Is there a way that, e.g. on Reg Parnell, the word Opinion can be below the box on the right, rather than having the big gap? Alex Holowczak 05:11, 21 August 2006 (EST)
You've got the bit about winning at Goodwood, then Opinions below it. Then a huge gap down to where any opinion articles would actually be. That gap. Is there a way that the word "Opinion" can be moved down to where the opinions would actually be? Alex Holowczak 05:27, 21 August 2006 (EST)

On my computer, it looks like you have the bit about him winning the Richmond and Goodwood Trophy. Then, I see "Opinions". The stats are on the right. There is a gap to the left of that box, and only when you get to the bottom of the box does the rest of the Opinions come in. I'd rather the word "Opinions" be right above the Opinions, rather than there being a huge gap. I figure that pressing enter a lot would fix it, I just wondered if there was a quicker, more consistent way to guarantee it. As for changing the style, having spent a day figuring it out, i'd be a bit disappointed to do it a different way. Also, I'm not sure the information to his box would be particularly relevant, e.g. school, salary, so it would be very empty. It would probably negate the minor problem, but still. I think that way looks more professional, but for F1 mine would be more practical. Besides, with my way, people in future may decide to try and fill the gap, which will improve it. To conclude that lot, the problem is probably just the way my computer sees it, and I'd like to carry on with my way.

Since it's a computer related problem, I'll just leave it. Thanks. Alex Holowczak 06:38, 21 August 2006 (EST)

[edit] F1 encyclopedia?

P.S. There are a lot of categories now for F1. Could you do an encyclopeadia like the others for it - the categories I would like in are:-

  • Current Circuits
  • Historical Circuits
  • Formula One Race Winners
  • Formula One Drivers
  • Formula One Teams (this isn't made yet)
  • Formula One World Champions
  • Formula One History (this is a bit jumbled, I can sort it out in a minute though)
  • Formula One Grands Prix (the titles, e.g. "(Country) Grand Prix" will be moved to this category shortly)
  • Formula One Drivers Killed Whilst Racing
  • Grand Prix History (I'll make this in a minute - Grands Prix were the F1 predecessors))

The names may not be perfect matches to the title of each page, but if you look at the Formula One section, a lot of the headers are category pages.

I don't know if you'd rather do one for all of Auto Racing as a whole, but there is not much on it, and I think there is reason to suggest that the F1 encyclopedia will be full. Perhaps F1 can be a section of the Auto Racing version.

If you do this, and want to make Grand Prix plural, note that it's "Grands Prix" not "Grand Prixs"! It's French.

Alex Holowczak 06:23, 21 August 2006 (EST)

In which case, I'll make a proper list of all the categories and put them on your page to make your job easier when you get around to it. Thanks. Alex Holowczak 06:38, 21 August 2006 (EST)

[edit] "Indianapolis Motor Speedway...

...is the second-oldest surviving automobile racing track in the world (after the Milwaukee Mile)"

I've found a few that predate those...

  • Pau - 1900
  • Isle of Man - 1905
  • Le Mans - 1906

Pau has been severely reduced from what it was in 1900 (it was >140 miles long, it made sense!), but it still holds races in the French Championship. Le Mans was not technically an offical track - in 1906 it was a street race. The layout formed at Le Mans in 1926 (they recieved permission to close the roads and make them a permanent race course) that was official. Isle of Man has remained exactly the same since 1905, the precise layout is used, although it now only hosts the Isle of Man TT (motorcycles) every year (although there is a car element to it strangely...) I think Isle of Man is ahead of Indy, but there are arguments for the other two being knocked off the list. See this. Shall I move that to the writing to the Oval for NASCAR, and change the template to the oval, and/or change Indy from the oldest (which it clearly isn't!). It is hard to tell which was first, you'll see a race called the Targa Florio? If so, the Madonie course still exists, technically, although it is no longer used for racing. So shall I change the wording to "active automobile racing track"? Probably nit picking, but I think it needs to be right. Alex Holowczak 06:21, 23 August 2006 (EST)

I changed the template to link to the Oval, and made another template for the information. I added a layout template for the two layouts. I also linked the Nextel Series tab to Watkins Glen, as I had a picture from that as it hosted F1 in the 1960s and 70s. Alex Holowczak 07:32, 23 August 2006 (EST)

[edit] Page 20,000

Not that you've been keeping a check on that since it went past 19,750 or anything! You may have just created yourself some work though... If you're not too busy, can you take a look at F1-1951. If you click Report for the 1951 Swiss Grand Prix, you come to the report, and it is displayed. Could you do the same (i.e. in format) for the others in that list and future years (ignoring the Indy 500s)? That would help as I cannot do all 750+ of them any time soon. Wikipedia has a lot of the tables, and the odd report, but I can easily get those elsewhere and rewrite them. On wikipedia, just type the name of the Grand Prix, and you have the table. As you can probably see, I am inundated with track improvements, and all the pre-1950 races. I fear that at this rate, I'll be putting off writing about the 1970 Monaco Grand Prix because I'll have to go out to draw my pension... Thoughts? Let me know if you can help. oh okay. I will let you know if I see it anywhere. Thanks, have a great day! Ufgators

[edit] Hall of Fame

I can see what you mean about the whole permanency issue. However, my personal opinion is that players shouldn't be removed from the Hall of Fame once they are there because it would cause too much turmoil. Having players shift in and out of the Hall of Fame every few months seems like too much change; the downside is that things appear too static and don't help involve new users in the voting. Perhaps a good solution would be to induct 10 new players every month, regardless of position. This will keep new users involved but prevent players from being removed. What do you think? --Drpatriot

Also, check Dan Marino's page for an attempt at a slightly more subtle format for the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame that doesn't block out 5 lines of text from the bottom of the page. If it needs to be even less apparant, let me know. --Drpatriot

To be frank, I think you're vastly overestimating the negative response you will receive to this. If an established website that I had just joined already had a Hall of Fame and was looking to expand, I wouldn't be angry that I hadn't been included in the original process. I still would instead be interested in participating in the current activities. I understand your train of thought but I don't think it makes sense. ArmchairGM is a website run by the sports community. However, if you're just joining it, there had to be a sports community there to begin with. And if that community decided that so-and-so players were going to be in their Hall of Fame before I got there, I doubt I would get too upset about it. The only concerns that I would have would be people disagreeing with some of the members of the Hall of Fame. However, I don't see how this is any different than a user who actually voted in the poll disagreeing with some of the members of the Hall of Fame. This problem will be there whether or not players are permanently elected to the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame.
In addition, one problem with a revolving ArmchairGM Hall of Fame, like you suggested, is upkeep. It isn't practical for users to keep updating whether players are in the Hall of Fame or not because as the site grows, the size of the Hall of Fame will likely grow as well. This large amount of upkeep could eventually lead to abandonment of the entire project.
In my opinion, there is no reason why we can't have ten players added every month and keep the original players there, like I suggested. We will have the problem of people disagreeing with inductees whether they had voted originally, were members of the site but hadn't voted, or had joined afterwards because votes will not be unanimous. For example, a new user would join and say that WR Art Monk should not have been in the Hall of Fame. However, we have had this complaint from current users as well. By the very nature of a poll, some results are disputable, whether you participated in the poll or not. After taking this into account, the relatively small amount of upkeep required to maintain a static Hall of Fame is much easier to handle than the relatively large upkeep required to maintain a revolving Hall of Fame.
Let me know what you think. --Drpatriot

[edit] promo

hope you dont mind that i added the promo to the cheerleading article. I figured it would garner much attention from non users (like my madden article) so the promo looked good up there. if you want you can take it down...Ufgators

[edit] article

  • great article, i could tell you put some time into it. in response to ra33ch's comment, i told her: "I can understand, from a womens point of view, how you can be offended by the repeated use of the word "hot" and words of that nature. However, Roblefko has in no way made any perverse or sexual implications towards any of the women. By making an article such as this, it is guarenteed to garner a lot of attention from people of both point of views. As far as stereotypes go...the only stereotypes I know are: cheerleaders are usually blonde, good looking, and have sub-par intelligence. Roblefko didn't address any of that. You should totally challenge him to a showdown as I would love to hear both sides to this article." Ufgators
  • In any event, I'd love to do an article with you some time, on any topic of your choosing. Take Care, Ufgators
  • oh yeah, i love those ideas. if you look at my userpage, im currently doing something like that; its a tribute to the best athlete songs. as far as the college/nfl article goes, this site may be of some help. I would love to do any of those articles with you. Right now i have to go (school tomorrow!) so i'll further the talks with you tomorrow. have a great night, Ufgators

[edit] MLB Hall of Fame

Rob - I'm in the middle of doing the voting & pages for the players that made it into the ArmchairGM MLB Hall of Fame... however, for the LF'ers, if I follow the formula to get into the hall (total votes * 3 min to get in), there were 5 people who voted - everyone put Ted Williams as thier #1 choice (total - 50 points)... since it's 57 min points min to get in, according to the formula, Williams does NOT get in... but with everyone choosing him as thier #1, should there be an exception made or no??? What do you think??

[edit] Possible HoF voting solution???

Rob - When you have time, can you please check out Demonboys MLB HoF. I think I came up with a solution but want to float it around to you & other that are doing other sports HoF's... thanx...

I see what you mean about a counter and stop it around let's say 20 or even on the "high" side of 25% of the total users... that was my original thinking... the problem is, can we impliment something like that? I was kinda thinking along the lines of maybe a players name then right next to that a +/- that is part of the comment section in the opinion/news pages... once the person who did the page sees that the + counter reached a certain #, they can pull that players name off the list or stop the voting somehow...
However, with something like that, we'll get the Anonymous people just doing a - so many times to keep a player out - I.E. Pete Rose for example - many people don't want him in any type of a HoF... I'll be more & happy to write the page(s) - just need the basic coding if the Wiki allows it - or is this more of a question to pose to Penn??
That's fine... I can wait until more of a permanent solution is in place... when I saw of this idea, since and people started to put thier names down on who will do what sport, I wanted to do the baseball one but some already had a jump on thier sport and I prematurely pressured myself into this... but waiting - ya - no problem... until then, I can play around and see what I can come up with on "dummy type" pages... if it works - great... if it don't - oh well - at least I had something to do with my time sitting in a hotel room by myself instead of watching this pathetic cable system they have here lol
I hear ya and I appreciate it... it's just so hard to dedictate to something like a weekly comlumn (I.E. Corey's top 25 poll for instance or similar)... I spend so much time on the road - most days gone from 4 or 5am until 10 or 11pm - today is a rarity I'm back this soon... that's why I do a lot of work behind the scenes (Minor League baseball systems, Cubs & Tigers rosters, All-American Girls Professional Baseball League pages, etc) that way it's nothing 'time-sensitve' and if I just happen to think of something to post I will... but that's becoming rarer & rarer (is that even a word? lol) I like this site a lot - it's definately one of if not the best fan-based sites I've seen and I just want to show my appreciation for what you all do... if I see something missing or wrong - I'll add or change it... if someone is looking to help with the above pages mentioned, by all means go for it... but y'all have enough on your plate as it is I'm sure :) Demonboy

[edit] help wanted

  • hey, just wanted to make sure that when you publish that article we've been working on about the best nfl players from each conference, will i get credit? because i saw a few guys edited it as well. ALSO, if you can find any good games for it, this draft is in need of some help. Ufgators
  • hmm, when you put it that way, i guess i dont deserve AS MUCH credit as you; but, i did add a lot of players, so if possible, then may i have credit for the article? Oh, and thanks for that article, i will definitely use it for reference. feel free to add any if you'd like.
  • thank you so much, i really appreciate it. it was an awesome idea, btw. have a great day, Ufgators

[edit] kayla/romi

instead of counting out 200 votes for kayla and romi in the cheerleading article, why not have two comments: kayla, and the other, romi. if users want romi, they vote on the comment that says romi. and vice versa for kayla. then, when voting closes, you sort the comments by pluses, and there is your winner! [edit] LiveBlogging

I haven't decided yet but I may try to do this during KC-DEN later on today. I took a look at the MIN-WAS LiveBlog from last week. [edit] A couple of ideas

I came up with a couple of ideas...

  1. See Category:Formula One Cinema. I will put as many YouTube videos as I can find and put them in there (whilst linking to the race, e.g. on F1-2006). Could this be expanded into other sports, and have a cinema section to the Sports Encyclopedia, or a section seperate altogether, or a section in the encyclopedia for each bit etc.
  2. On a completely unrelated topic, a Sporting Calendar for 2007. I've seen the, e.g. September 23 page, and seen the calendar listing to that day, but could there be a separate calendar where the major sporting events of the day are listed. Obviously this would have to start in 2007.

What do you think to those two ideas? Alex Holowczak 08:24, 23 September 2006 (EST)

The video stuff is easy to sort out, but the calendar I would require more help with. Mostly because the days are already taken, e.g. September 25. There is already a page for that. Also, the wiki looks very complicated. I would happily add any data onto it, but I wouldn't know how to set up the calendar's appearance, or avoid the previous calendar clashes. Could you set up the overall page, and come up with some brilliant idea to get around the problem of the dates being used? Alex Holowczak 11:57, 25 September 2006 (EST)
After a bit of thought, that is the best option. But make sure in future that people wikify dates in the two seperate ways, not the all-in-one way you are about to make. Where would it go on the site? I presume there could be a section in the Community Portal, and perhaps a link to it on the Main Page, (e.g. on the Today's Stuff section)? [edit] Just wondering...

Did you do the pages for the 2007 Sports' Calendar? Alex Holowczak 12:55, 28 September 2006 (EST)

Thanks, I will start to add stuff to it after dinner! Alex Holowczak 10:42, 29 September 2006 (EST)
Don't worry - the motivation of possibly overtaking DNL for Number 1 in the All-Time Top User list is keeping me on the trail of working on here! Then I can be Number 1 until Manny decides he likes to wikify too... If it makes you feel better, dinner was cold by the time I got there. (Even though it was salad... But the chicken I had with it was cold too...) I'm now taking time off though to watch Simpsons, and then, I'm off to bed. What with the time difference and all... I put F1 stuff and the odd snooker day on the calendar too, but I'm off for now after I've added the calendar to the Community Portal (you spelt calendar wrongly at one point (you spelt it calender...)) So anyways, thanks for the calendar, and enjoy your evening! (P.S. I never noticed the upgraded appearance of the Community Portal! It looks much better.) [edit] My changes

Because I was worried that no one reads the questions section so that why i wanted to leave it in the comments section and besides it's easier to place. But I just noticed that it does get some feedback and I've watchlisted my opinions and questions. So yeah I realized that you did alright.

[edit] Grand Prix

It's complicated. Grand Prix means Great Prize, and the title of Grand Prix came in in 1906 in France. It can apply to any sport, e.g. today in France there is a horse races, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. (The "Grand" has been colloquially dropped). So the snooker version is the Snooker Grand Prix, which fits with the idea of the prize. I'll have to edit is as a disambiguation page, because I have a lot of snooker profiles linking to "Grand Prix". Alex Holowczak 04:13, 1 October 2006 (EST)

[edit] F1 Help

I liked your changes to the main F1 page.

I wondered if you could help me with some of the more encyclopeadic sections of the site. E.g. 1951 Belgian Grand Prix. You can get the race results off wikipedia's correlating page, and I can get reports from all over the place. I can even add a video of the race (something I have done with later races).

I have tried many other avenues for help (Myspace F1 Group, Youtube F1 Group) but alas no-one has come to help.

Would you mind helping me to fill it out? Alex Holowczak 11:17, 5 October 2006 (EST)

[edit] Er...

You slightly misunderstood the scale of my request! I used the Belgian Grand Prix of 1951 as an example. If you look at F1-1951 through to F1-2005, that will give a fairer indication! (It's about 750 more Grands Prix). The code is different too, if you look at a completed report (e.g. 1950 British Grand Prix), then you will see what has to be done. I will field the report from another source, so don't worry about that. I'll also fill out the Drivers' and Constructors' Standings. As a direct answer to your question, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes to do each table. Taking it at 50 minutes, with 750 GPs... that's 750*50=3,750 minutes. Which is 62 1/2 hours... You see my problem of doing it by myself! I'll also make a few of the Template:Formula One Season for a few other seasons. Once that's all done, there are driver profiles to complete (you'll note I started some...) So yeah - huge project! That's why I haven't got too far in three months! To sum up, all (figuratively speaking) I am asking of you is that you do the tables for each race. You can leave the Indy500s, as Thecrookedcap said he'll do those (they need to be done differently apparently...) Your thoughts? Alex Holowczak 11:47, 5 October 2006 (EST)

[edit] 2006 MLB Stats Updates?

Hey Roblefko - I didn't really know which one of you guys to ask about this but when/how do the 2006 stats get added to a players "stat box"? You know - on their player page? [edit] AFL

I'm not sure how to do this, but I would like to have an Arena Football League section on the site, similar to those of the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NFL. Since we in LA don't have an real pro team, the Avengers are the closest thing to it. However, the AFL link is just a little information about the league. I would like to add info about the teams, leagues, and players, and I think users would find it interesting too. Could you make the template?

User: The Beast

[edit] AFL (Again)

I'm pretty terrible at templates. I've tried before, but I end up messing it all up. I you can just set up the links and templates, I can add the text, info, and teams. Is it possible for team links to be like those of major sports, Mets, Dodgers, etc. Also can we make the AFL a link on the menu bar.

[edit] Arena

I hope you don't think I'm trying to mess up the Bills page. I copied the template and put in on the Avengers roster. Could you maybe steer me in the right direction. Also, I'd like to have team pages for all the AFL teams. The team page would be like the Mets, Yankees, Angels, etc. The same design. Also I'd like to adjust my menu bar and switch NASCAR with AFL. The BE=east

I think I get it. I'll practice it. Here is a list of the teams.

National Conference

  • Columbus Destroyers
  • Dallas Desperados
  • New York Dragons
  • Philadelphia Soul
  • Austin Wranglers
  • Georgia Force
  • New Orleans VooDoo
  • Orlando Predators
  • Tampa Bay Storm

American Conference

  • Colorado Crush
  • Grand Rapids Rampage
  • Kansas City Brigade
  • Nashville Kats
  • Arizona Rattlers
  • Los Angeles Avengers
  • Las Vegas Gladiators
  • San Jose SaberCats
  • Utah Blaze

Sure, I'm on holiday now for a week (half-term, i.e. "mid-somester"), so I'll put some on tomorrow.

On a related thread, I've decided to just copy and paste race reports from wikipedia for F1. The code can be changed later. Same thing with driver profiles (or at least the text part, I can put better stats on later).

I might try to do Birmingham, England now (Where I live). Shall I use the same template, or shall I make a separate one? And how would I differentiate it between the US city of the same name? Alex Holowczak 11:42, 19 October 2006 (EST)

The redesign has chopped the table off (literally!) Is there a way that it can fit back on the page, AND keep the results table on one line? Alex Holowczak 03:59, 20 October 2006 (EST)

Oops - I should have noticed that. Here's the link -> 2003 Rugby Union World Cup.
On my computer, I can see the fixtures, but the tables have the team column, P, W, D, L, and F, but there appears to be no way I can see A and PTS. Alex Holowczak 06:09, 20 October 2006 (EST)

[edit] KSN Members

Oh sure, if it's no trouble for you. It sounds really cool and convenient. Thank you! Theimacguy 17:43, 24 October 2006 (EST)

Lol, yea. I guess we need to start writing some options. Thanks again! Theimacguy 21:05, 25 October 2006 (EST)

[edit] User Stats

I had an idea for an addition to the user stats rankings. In pretty much every professional sport, a percentage is a key stat. I was thinking it would be cool to add Promoted Opinion % to our stats. Meaning the number of our opinions that have been promoted out of how many we've written. There are a few users (like LastRow) that put up a ton of opinions and don't get many promoted and there are a few users (though I can't name one now) that put up one every couple of weeks and get promoted every time. I think this would give us a good idea of what users are the most consistant with their writing and ideas. I am a cpcp

[edit] Tech Roster

Well, I took it out because I realized there's already a "roster" page, and I was posting it under "starters". I'm trying as we speak to find a depth chart for the team, so I can parse the chart down to just the starters. Also, I can't seem to get rid of that

"<tr>
<td align="center">"

business without ruining the whole chart. Ashamedly, my html is not exactly stellar at this point... :(

So if you know how to remedy my terrible table code, that would help, I know you're master of all things Wiki! - Davis21wylie 16:19, 25 October 2006 (EST)

Outstanding! - Davis21wylie 16:36, 25 October 2006 (EST)

[edit] Rankings

Why doesn't the rankings appear any longer when I check "My Page". It seems that the problems started when the 'last comment, last vote, last edit' features were added.Erooster 14:30, 28 October 2006 (EST)

[edit] Knicks Waive that guy...

Sorry about the third repetition - only a joke. No harm done I hope? :) Alex Holowczak 12:44, 30 October 2006 (EST)

Okay. :) Alex Holowczak 12:58, 30 October 2006 (EST)

[edit] Deletion of Opinions

[edit] Xinoph

I'm not pleased with Xinoph's bullying. Pnatt 04:08, 3 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Brackets

I have searched the site for playoff brackets unsuccessfully. Where have they been hidden!? Alex Holowczak 08:58, 4 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Pnatt

I hope you realize that I've done my best to integrate Pnatt into this community, no matter what he says. He tends to personalize conflicts, I think, so any critiques of his work earn you negative votes and his eternal dislike. I think we've both had our conflicts with him, and I hope he becomes a member in good standing of the community. Xinoph 09:58, 4 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] NBA Predictions

Hey, Rob, you weren't just editing your predictions page, were you? It was an anon IP, it looked like vandalism, and similar vandalism has occurred in the past, so I reverted. If it was you, though, sorry! - Davis21wylie 11:29, 4 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Unprotection

Please unprotect these pages: Is rugby truly the game played in heaven?, NFL, NBA, and NHL Straight Seeding Proposal, MLB Division Series Proposal, NFL Playoffs Proposal. Pnatt 01:19, 5 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Red Tribute

Shouldn't we have a tribute to page to Red Auerbach featured on the front page? Or is he less important in the overall sports pantheon than Cory Lidle? :) I have already started the article at Red Auerbach Memorial Page Xinoph 05:55, 5 November 2006 (EST)

Cool, thanks. I was entirely joking about the Lidle reference, of course. :) Xinoph 06:17, 5 November 2006 (EST)
Yeah, I know. Maybe just bold the name in the Featured Article for now? I'll make an entry on Red eventually, I promise. Maybe after Tuesday, when work calms down a bit! :) Xinoph 06:26, 5 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks, but User:Xinoph beat you to it! (If you read a bit higher on my page, you'd have found it!) Alex Holowczak 06:22, 5 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] A favour

Take a look at Category:Snooker Players. Can you please move all of them to the same thing, but without the country in brackets? Also, depending on their nationalities, can you instead put them in a subcategory of that name? E.g. Cliff Thorburn (Canada) would be on the Cliff Thorburn page, and he would be added to a new category for Canadian snooker players.

In the case of clashes with other sports, just type (snooker) after their names on the profile. You can leave the redirect in too, that isn't a problem.

Could you do that for me please? I am busy changing all the other snooker stuff around, because I have discovered these templates!

Alex Holowczak 10:15, 5 November 2006 (EST)

Yes, it won't be too bad. I can just click into the snooker section and go through the list of opinions and news (not a lot, let's face it!), and I can just change the 20 or so there. Also, the snooker players are completely different from every other sport on here to have their nationality with it, so it would bring out some positives. It is a lot of redesignation, but in the end I think it'll be worth it. Alex Holowczak 10:40, 5 November 2006 (EST) - As a bit more, in the player profile box, in the nationality box, can you type {{Team ______}} for the country, and unbold all the stats after the colon in each case. And delete the big flag. I'll be doing the same now, so I'll see what you're doing too. Thanks!!
Examples, Mark Allen, Nigel Bond. So we don't do things twice and slow each other down, if you could work backwards it would be good! Alex Holowczak 10:59, 5 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Unprotection and Deletion

Can you please unprotect this page What's your thoughts on Canadian football? and delete this page Category:Questions by User Pnatt. Pnatt 04:12, 6 November 2006 (EST)

== Wikipedia ==OK, my bad, sorry 'bout that. :) Xinoph 21:46, 13 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Change on Current Title?

The title for my current opinion, http://www.armchairgm.com/mwiki/index.php?title=Flex_Schedule_Turning_Into_a_Boom_For_NBC, should it be changed from 'Boom' to 'Boon'? What do you think?Erooster 03:33, 15 November 2006 (EST)

[edit] Cities

For the Sports Travel Guide could you add Anaheim as a city. I know its only 37 miles south, but that could be a 2 hour drive. 3 hours to drive to a game. I'd seperate it with LA.

[edit] 2006 MLB Stats

Is there any way to amend the MLB players' pages so that their 2006 stats are added to their stat boxes??
Please respond. If there's work involved, I'm volunteering.

[edit] "This Is How the Bowls Will Go" article =

Two words - User:Pnatt as an AF. Alex Holowczak 12:20, 3 December 2006 (EST)

Okay that's more than two words, but you get the idea - he said he'd post some comments this afternoon on Myspace... You ought to delete them. Alex Holowczak 12:27, 3 December 2006 (EST)

[edit] Vandal

Not all of the changes, not by a long shot. This cat vandalized literally hundreds of pages -- and he has done this on other wikis as well (Google his IP). There's a lot more reverting to be done. - Davis21wylie 13:44, 12 December 2006 (EST)

Hey, Rob, sorry to leave you to clean up this mess, but I've got to step out for a while. Maybe you could get some other admins to pitch in their rollbacks? This is unprecedented vandalism of the 'Chair! - Davis21wylie 14:04, 12 December 2006 (EST)

[edit] Happy New Year!

While I personally never understood celebrating the passage of a random unit of time, I understand people like the kissing and the drinking, so Happy New Year! Though you may be a Jets fan, and that's totally unforgivable, at least you're a Mets fan. So it's almost OK. :)Xinoph 14:13, 31 December 2006 (EST)

[edit] Falling Behind

Since you are the editor in chief, almost, I have noticed that a lot of rosters, and things like that are very... behind. Or at least in the NFL and NHL, I haven't checked anywhere else. But I think that generally the rosters should be updated as they are a bit inaccurate. Since you tend to do these sort of things, I thought I'd let you know. Alex Holowczak 10:54, 1 January 2007 (EST)

And another thing... The site was purchased by Wikia wasn't it? I.e. the same people that started wikipedia? In which case, it is now permittable to ask Wikipedians to come across, or is it still not the best thing to do? Alex Holowczak 10:56, 1 January 2007 (EST)
Fair enough with the Wikipedians, but can there be a section on it relating to us, i.e. here? A page can also be created in the same way as other wikis have a page regarding them. Can an Armchair admin write something there as a method of putting this site out there? Alex Holowczak 07:25, 2 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] Profile on Main Page

Could you put Michael Schumacher and his profile on the main page on today (January 3) as today is his 38th birthday? I thought it might be quite appropriate. Alex Holowczak 04:30, 3 January 2007 (EST)

Thanks. And no, I can't edit the main page - there is no "edit" button anywhere. Alex Holowczak 04:55, 3 January 2007 (EST)
Yep, that works. One thing I noticed - Schumacher is on the Good Stuff, but not on the New Stuff. I presume the link you sent me was the one for the Good Stuff, as that had Schumacher on. Alex Holowczak 05:26, 3 January 2007 (EST)
Thanks for putting it on there. However, I can't edit either main page - there is no edit button on it for me to click to do so, if you see what I mean. The link you gave me was only to the good stuff bit wasn't it? Alex Holowczak 10:22, 3 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] Challenge

Hey, Rob, good work on the Maroney report. Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, but Spring semester started at Tech, and I have a feeling my 'Chair time will be curtailed until May. :( Anyway, thanks for holding up your end of the bargain, and have a good one! - Davis21wylie 11:14, 9 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] Challenge

Thankyou! I will send a link to prove it, don't worry. I won't cheat, I don't need to. :D Seriously, there'll be proof. Alex Holowczak 12:33, 11 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] Help

If you look at List of Mini Flags, you can see that I have had to use enter to create space between each letter. And even then, it's frail. Is there a way of automatically starting each new table underneath the previous one, other than by using enter? Alex Holowczak 07:33, 14 January 2007 (EST)

  • P.S. I won the challenge against User:The Beast, regarding the result of Ding Junhui agaisnt Anthony Hamilton. It was 6-3 to Ding - he made a 147 and I posted an article about it. Can you give me the win on the challenge? Alex Holowczak 07:33, 14 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] Snooker Challenge

Damn it, I lost the snooker challenge. Jimmy White lost 6-1 to Matthew Stevens. So I am at your command! Which five NFL/MLB/NHLers do you want me to do profiles for? Alex Holowczak 09:53, 14 January 2007 (EST)

Have I done enough to get your positive praise? Look at Dominik Hasek, Jean Beliveau, Brett Hull, Vladimir Konstantinov, and Marian Gaborik. Anything more I need to do? If not, leave me a note, and I'll see to it. Alex Holowczak 12:50, 16 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] Hall of Fame

You can't leave me hanging like that! Can you tell me more, or would that spoil the surprise? Alex Holowczak 14:04, 16 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] 48 player bracket

I was wondering - did you come up with a solution for the 48-team bracket? I.e. a 32 team bracket, with basically another Round 1 to the left of it, with the matches on the same horizontal row? I showed you Template:32TeamBracket and Template:48TeamBracket - the latter representing my feeble attempt? Any use? Alex Holowczak 12:12, 17 January 2007 (EST)

Not really... That was the problem! I thought of just typing them out as I used to, but I didn't think that would look too good (hence switching them to the new layout). Alex Holowczak 13:04, 17 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] Push

I noticed on the challenge result screen, I can choose who has won. I can also select "push". What does that do? Alex Holowczak 10:01, 19 January 2007 (EST)

Okay, thanks! Alex Holowczak 10:51, 19 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] HOF

I like the idea, but wouldn't 1, 2, 3 and 4 be better for the tiers, it seems to compute as a human than 3.75! It sounds very good, but does it need to be done manually? You should post a locker room about it firstly... Secondly, can we then write articles getting people to vote them up/down depending on our opinion? Alex Holowczak 16:18, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

P.S. Sorry for the delay, it's been an eventful afternoon. :)
Sorry, I didn't read your message properly, I'll get it up and running then. Is there a way you can do it for F1 drivers, e.g. Juan Manuel Fangio? I.e. put it in the template or something? Alex Holowczak 16:49, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
How are you bringing it all together? And some people don't have them (e.g. Tiger Woods doesn't have a player profile), nor do any of my F1 drivers like Juan Manuel Fangio. Can you think of a way to get around that? Alex Holowczak 17:55, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
I like the bringing it together. Is there a way it can all be brought together into one category, i.e. everybody listed like that? Would you just change categories to be all the categories? Or is there an "all" command that does that automatically? Alex Holowczak 18:58, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Is there a way that the bringing together pages can be condensed? They are very lengthy. Can they be made to look more like the User Stats, for example? That way, you can get more on a page firstly, and secondly, it would look a bit neater. But keep the clickable links. Is that possible? Alex Holowczak 19:51, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
That's a good point. :) I'm going to bed now, I'll continue tomorrow. Alex Holowczak 21:21, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Permanent Home

Where do we put the HoF permanently - it's not attached to anything yet is it? I can only access it either via the lockerroom post or via searching for it. Where do you think it should go? Alex Holowczak 17:50, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Formula One Encyclopedia

The categories have the voting information and comments etc. on it, when there isn't really a need. Is there any chance you could remove that from each category? Alex Holowczak 14:51, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recaps on New Articles

Can we have game recaps on new articles on the right of the main page? Otherwise, nobody will find them to read. Alex Holowczak 17:54, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

This one - Great Britain 2 Lithuania 3 (April 16, 2007)

[edit] F1 Encyclopedia

Okay, I'm writing in article for now - I'll have another look later on. A P.S. from above - that recap shows other recaps that haven't been put on the Main Page to the right under new articles. Alex Holowczak 17:01, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ACGM CFB Poll

Hi. I saw you had "applied" for the ACGM CFB Poll. I've approved you. It's still in testing phase and I've some some dummy data in there. But feel free to play with it and if something breaks, let me know. When it comes time to actually vote, I plan on wiping the data so you can revote with ease then. MECU 18:04, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Game Recaps

They're gone from the right of the page again. Alex Holowczak 17:51, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Halls o' Fame

Great work with them! Also, thanks for featuring my favorite player at the hockey player ratings home. Let me know when you want to tackle my red links, and we can do something like this for hockey... - Davis21wylie 02:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, let's make the old ones "Ottawa Senators (Original) Teams". Also, the St. Louis Eagles are in that category. I'll take care of it... - Davis21wylie 17:04, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Doesn't Work

The thing on the right of the Main Page, with the Player Ratings... If you click "Previous" or "Next", it goes to Z randomly... Not the next batch of 5 players, as I imagined it would. Alex Holowczak 16:17, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] All done!

We finished the red links, great work! - Davis21wylie 17:10, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, let's do it some time later this week. I'll make a red link page, and drop you line when I'm ready. - Davis21wylie 21:58, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Here are the red links for the NBA. I probably won't do a lot of it today, but if you and Eggman want to start, that's fine with me. - Davis21wylie 16:05, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Haha, I see the Edit Monster's been hard at work! Such injustices would never have happened last year... - Davis21wylie 18:25, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ratings

Excellent, well done! :) Alex Holowczak 19:26, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Awesome work! - Davis21wylie 19:28, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ratings on Race Circuits

Can you put a circuit rating on all the race track pages? Saying "Track Rating" rather than "Player Rating"? Then we could rate the circuits too. Where would it go on the circuits page (e.g. Brands Hatch)? Alex Holowczak 11:49, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay then. I'll start it, but I'll welcome you aboard once you're done with other sports. Alex Holowczak 12:34, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes they do! :) Good thinking! Could you do that then, since it's much easier, please!? Alex Holowczak 12:40, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! BTW, did the site/server just crash for 5 minutes or so? I couldn't access the site.

[edit] Gifts

Can gifts be created? I can think of a few I'd like to see... E.g. medals (a la the Olympics), gold, silver and bronze, a wooden spoon (i.e. not very good). A captains armband (for soccer), a golden boot (for soccer). So, can we create gifts, or do we have to ask them to be made? Alex Holowczak 16:25, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay then... If you could add the ones I suggested above - ooh, and a chequered flag for something to do with Auto Racing, then I'd appreciate it! Alex Holowczak 16:32, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Leslie

Yo Rob, He's just messing with you guys to get a rise out of you...I mean take a look at actual comments, they're kinda a joke. Just stop commenting and they'll stop. Everything should be fine. As always, I appreciate the work you do on this site

Regards JuTMSY4

[edit] NBA

How did Magic Johnson end up with 130 votes!? And the rest of the NBA #1 Picks? Alex Holowczak 12:51, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Individual Player Seasons

I see what your doing, is there a list or something your working off of so I could help? -- False Prophet 18:40, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I'll think if I can find one. I just transformed the NFL MVP list into red links, and then modified the format you've used for MLB players and am gonna do that. If I find one, I'll tell you. Or if I can think of an idea of how to get every player for every year (that'd take a long time to do).
Could you add Template:NFL Ratings Nav to the players rating and historical team rating? I screw up the formatting every time I try to do something like this. -- False Prophet 22:05, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm working on the NFL. I'm doing all the pages you've done for Basketball. But whenever you finnish Basketball, Football could use help. Especially the page formatting. -- False Prophet 22:27, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I got it in between pages. I'm glad you told me! False Prophet 22:34, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! Btw, you should probably consider blanking/archiving your talk page.

[edit] Revert

Sorry, their have been so many blanking edits that I've become atuned to revert anon edits upon sight. It's a bad habit, and I'll check the diffs next time.

Next, I hope your liking tonight's Mets-Twins game, I know I am!!! :)

And finally, ARCHIVE/BLANK YOUR TALK PAGE. PLEASE. -- False Prophet 01:34, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Can you add the two grand slams in one inning record in "Top MLB Records"? Thanks. - Insan
