Week 2 of the NFL Preseason begins tonight (Thursday, 8-16-07). Miami Dolphins at Kansas City Chiefs on ESPN at 8:00 (ET)
For those of you who care about preseason (because like me you cannot stand for football to be on and not watch it), here are some things to look for while watching the game tonight...
The Dolphins barely managed to scrape a win out of last week’s preseason game against Jacksonville. They really hope to see better things out of this team this week. The big story is the QB Trent Green, who will be returning to Kansas City to take on his former teammates. Last week was Green’s first outing in the Dolphin uniform and things did not go well for him. He ended up completing 6 passes (out of 15) and throwing one interception. During his last few drives, the crowd at Dolphin Stadium booed him, their new leader for whom they had much higher expectations. I expect he will do better against his former team and hopefully quiet the dolphin skeptism momentarily. Another spotlight to look for is the Dolphin rookie Ted Ginn Jr. who dolphin fans expect to be a good kick returner. Last week he didn’t seem to have any room to return, so let’s see if he can break one this week.
The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to figure out who should be their starting QB, since Trent Green no longer wears red. The battle is between Damon Huard, who played well for them last year when Trent Green was hurt, or Brodie Croyle, who was a third-round pick last season. Huard has more NFL experience, but the coaches love Croyle’s high-powered arm but question his decision making. Neither QB looked good last week against Cleveland. Both threw an interception, so the battle continues this week.
