The Rant (07/13/06)

I've been inspired by Lewis Black to go on a rant series of quips, and I hope you guys don't mind, but here are the things currently on my mind:
- The Yankees signed Sidney Ponson. Why would the Yanks want an overweight troublemaker with no work ethic? There is a reason he's been on so many teams and even cut by one as well.
- If I hear Regis Philbin (on "America's Got Talent") refer to himself in third person one more time, I will end up in the nut house.
- This article proves that everyone on armchair gm has the attention span of a...what? I apologize for being the one to get us off topic.
- I have a strong hatred for players who wear sunglasses when they don't need to. In an issue of SI, Robinson Cano told of his experience as a rookie and being on the same team as one of his idols, Derek Jeter. One day, Cano did an interview on tv and he kept his sunglasses on. Jeter informed him that keeping your shades on makes you look arrogant. LeBron James, Joey Porter you look arrogant.
(thanks to TheJim)
- The Cincy Reds traded away Kearns and Felipe Lopez for bullpen help and receive, among others, Royce Clayton. Wonderful. I'd love to have a 36 year old journeyman past his prime over 26 year old Felipe Lopez, an allstar basestealer. Im going to reiterate what everyone else has stated, and ask WHY to the reds??
- So Bron-Bron starts the trend of backing out of your verbal agreement to sign a deal with a fourth year player option. Silly me for thinking that security/a stable environment in sports was as important as money. I guess not.
- Barbaro's future looks grim. Here's to hoping that Barbaro makes one last push toward a healthy recovery.
- If Vegas had odds on "Last Comic Standing" then Gabriel Iglesias would most certainly be the favorite to win the contest. However, Gabriel smuggles a blackberry into his room, thus disqualifying him from the competition. He then proceeded to sneak out at 4am to call his girlfriend, only to be caught on camera for doing so.
- According to "The King" Richard Petty, Danica Patrick has no place in Nascar. On the contrary, I feel that from a marketing standpoint, Danica Patrick could only help Nascar. I would even--dare I say it--root for her.
- If ESPN adds the title "world series" to anything other than the sport of baseball, then it is most certainly not a sport. Discussion over.
So, my fellow armchairgm'ers, that is what's on my mind. If this article is popular, then I may do an article like this each week. If you have any other things you'd like to rant about, by all means fire away!!
