Well, this should be weird.

I changed up my draft board a lot this week, this time with players like Anthony Spencer and Adam Carriker shooting up the draft and others, like Quinn Pitcock and Zach Miller, falling out of grace. Hope you enjoy this edition of the Early Mock.

Is Jamarcus Russell the future of the Raiders offense?
Is Jamarcus Russell the future of the Raiders offense?

1 Oakland: JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU: Russell is still the best and most likely pick for Oakland, who has already begun talking with Russell and his agent.

2 Detroit: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin: Thomas is a premier left tackle who should help anchor the Lions’ line for years to come.

3 Cleveland: Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma: Stock is building up again around Peterson, who should be a great pickup for the Browns.

4 Tampa Bay: Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech: The Buccaneers still need a WR, and Johnson is the best way to meet that need.

5 Arizona: Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas: A great pass rusher and an excellent presence on the Cardinals’ defensive line.

6 Washington: Alan Branch, DT, Michigan: With no real presence on the inside, Washington drafts the speedy, two-technique Branch for the defensive tackle position.

Could Brady Quinn really fall all the way to the Texans?
Could Brady Quinn really fall all the way to the Texans?

7 Minnesota: Leon Hall, CB, Michigan: The Vikings look to Hall to give new life to their defensive backfield.

8 Houston: Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame: There are whispers that David Carr’s reign could be over in Houston, and Quinn would be a good candidate to take the reins.

9 Miami: Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson: Adams would be a great fit at Jason Taylor’s DE/OLB tweener position for the Dolphins defense.

10 Atlanta: Reggie Nelson, FS, Florida: Laron Landry is a good prospect, but Nelson just played better this year.

11 San Francisco: Ted Ginn, WR, Ohio State: If he doesn’t work out as a wide receiver, at least he can return kicks.

12 Buffalo: Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska: The Bills like Carriker’s combination of size and speed, continuing their string of unorthodox picks in the first round.

13 St. Louis: Laron Landry, SS, LSU: Quite frankly, this couldn’t have worked out better for the Rams.

Will I ever change my mind about the Packers drafting Marshawn Lynch?
Will I ever change my mind about the Packers drafting Marshawn Lynch?

14 Carolina: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville: With rumors of Kris Jenkins’ departure, the Panthers look to the awesomely named prospect out of Louisville for help.

15 Pittsburgh: Levi Brown, OT, Penn State: Brown is the best offensive lineman available and the Steelers need offensive linemen.

16 Green Bay: Marshawn Lynch, RB, California: This pick will keep on sticking.

17 Jacksonville: Lawrence Timmons, OLB, Florida State: The Jaguars don’t have a quality linebacker at either outside position. Timmons is the best available that would fit their system.

18 Cincinnati: Charles Johnson, DE, Georgia: Johnson surpasses his teammate Quentin Moses for a tenure with the Bengals, who could trade away Justin Smith now that he has received the franchise tag.

19 Tennessee: Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC: Jarrett is a good match for the Titans, who could use an upgrade at the receiver position.

Will Hughes continue his dramatic rise up the draft board with a fantastic Combine?
Will Hughes continue his dramatic rise up the draft board with a fantastic Combine?

20 New York Giants: Jarvis Moss, OLB, Florida: With Lavar Arrington out of the picture, the Giants draft Moss, a very similar player to Arrington physically.

21 Denver: Daymeion Hughes, CB, California: Hughes should shoot up draft boards if he has as great a combine as I expect

22 Dallas: Justin Blalock, OG, Texas: Blalock joins Ross as the second consecutive Longhorn selected with the Cowboys, who want to use his talents at the guard position.

23 Kansas City: Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina: Every time I project this pick, I die a little inside.

24 New England (from Seattle): Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh: The Patriots like Revis’ hard-hitting style and tough attitude towards the game.

Is Brandon Meriweather going to be the next Terrell Owens-type loudmouth with the Eagles?
Is Brandon Meriweather going to be the next Terrell Owens-type loudmouth with the Eagles?

25 New York Jets: Anthony Spencer, OLB, Purdue: Spencer’s size and speed should bode well for him with the Jets.

26 Philadelphia: Brandon Meriweather, S, Miami: Though he may prove to be a bit of a headache, Meriweather nonetheless played well during Senior Bowl week.

27 New Orleans: Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno State: This developmental prospect is the type of player that the Saints wanted all along.

28 New England: Patrick Willis, ILB, Ole Miss: Willis takes a tumble to the Patriots, who are happy to snatch him up with the 28th pick in the draft.

29 Baltimore: Michael Griffin, S, Texas: Griffin could fill a hole at FS that has been so gaping, the Ravens needed to bring in Gerome Sapp.

Is Pozluszny's stock falling faster than Rex Grossman's pants?
Is Pozluszny's stock falling faster than Rex Grossman's pants?

30 San Diego: Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU: Bowe is speedy, and the Chargers could use a deep threat.

31 Chicago: Paul Pozluszny, OLB, Penn State: If Briggs leaves, the Bears will look to bring in a replacement through the draft.

32 Indianapolis: Quentin Moses, DE, Georgia: There is no way that the Colts hang onto Dwight Freeney, and Moses could someday be an adequate replacement.

Big Risers: Anthony Spencer (+33), Adam Carriker (+13), Brandon Meriweather (+13), Charles Johnson (+10), Levi Brown (+8)

Big Fallers: Patrick Willis (-16), Justin Blalock (-8), Quentin Moses (-8), Brady Quinn (-5)

Off The Board: Quinn Pitcock, Rufus Alexander, Zach Miller, Buster Davis

Look for Green Bay to take Dwayne Jarrett instead of Lynch. They have talked about drafting a RB in the later rounds (ala Denver Broncos), since they both use the same zone-blocking scheme.

Other than Lynch, there aren't really any runningbacks suited for the zone-blocking system, at least that I know of. What late-round zone running prospects are out there?

They could get Michael Bush in the second round.

texans draft brady quinn? ridiculous...never going to happen. we'll draft a QB in the third round at the earliest and sign a veteran like plummer or damon huard to compete for the starting job. whoever wrote this is so retarded he probably thinks the cowboys dont suck

Though your theory about what the Texans will do to improve their quarterback situation is perfectly feasible, and possibly more likely, you remove all credibility from your statement by insulting me. I think I speak for all of the members of ArmchairGM when I say that this is completely unacceptable behavior.

I agree with you viewpoint Cowboys suck, but you can express your diagreement in another way without refering to Drpatriot as a retard. He is a great contributor on the site and doesn't deserve that. However, I disagree with his viewpoint for two reasons:

1. Texans passed up on Hometown QB Vince Young. What makes you think that they will take Quinn.

2. Quinn won't fall that far. The Browns, Lions, Raiders, and Vikings are more likely destinations.

relax dady i'm just bustin your balls a litte bit. i just got alllll worked up when i saw brady quinn to the texans and the thought of even considering drafting a QB in the first round sent me off the deep end. i dindt want vince young, but he was a "hometown hero" and lots of people waned him. i can assure you...if the texans draft a QB in the first round, this city will riot

It's all good, just don't go around referring to people like that anymore. In hindsight, I agree with your post. A Jake Plummer signing, combined with a second- or third-round pick, would be exactly what the Texans need. I don't agree that any of the teams that the Beast mentioned would be necessarily more likely to take him, though. A likely destination for Quinn at this point seems to be Miami, where new head coach Cam Cameron could be looking to start something new.

Please don't change your mind about Lynch and the Packers. Now if only you could convince the Packers brass to make the pick come April.

Where is Troy Smith??? Didn't see him on there. There is talk of a trade between the Bronco's and the Texans for Jake Plummer. This would work b/c Kubiak used to be the Bronco's OC.
