It was a disappointing day for England, as they lost the Third Test to tie the series 1-1.
It started well enough, with Panesar completing his first five-wicket haul in a Test Innings. England were set the manageable, yet difficult target of 325 to win.
England's reply started well, as they reached 84/0 with ease; Trescothick and Strauss were in good form.
But Muralitharan got to work, and soon had the top seven England batsmen out, in a devastating batting collapse.
Any hopes of Murali' taking all 10 in the innings were stopped by an awful run out, but Muralitharan ended with figures of 8-70, the best of his career, as Sri Lanka ensured the three-match series would end drawn.
