The Pip's Board
Indeed. :-P I had a huge problem with it for that very reason, and it's why I chose the alternative version. It was a bugger to do. A little tip, you're probably doing this anyway, set up a spreadsheet to do it all for you. I had something for my rating system where all the Maths was done for me, I just had to type in results, and copy and paste the relevant results for each player to calculate the rating.
This may be of help to you: http://ratings.fide.com/calculators.phtml
Note that there are three calculators - you should only need 1 and 3. FIDE's system is complex in that the value of k is important to stop inflation/deflation. I use the ECF system for my school, it's easier to maintain! :-P
Crikey. How long ago was that? I've had a brief search of the whole site, for "FIDE", "Chess", "ELO" and "Rating" and combinations of them, and they either spew out Chess articles or articles where those words form part of other words. E.g. bona fide. So, I've had little success with it. I'm fairly certain I said it - it sounds like something I'd suggest. :-P Problem is, the archives are so big, that the comment/article/whatever could be anywhere. I'm sorry I can't be of much help. The only thing I can suggest is to keep searching for words related to chess, and hope to stumble across it. I'm not sure if it even covers comments, so if I mentioned it in a comment, you could be there for a while. Out of curiosity, might I ask why you need it?
No sir, I am not psychic...but I am an accomplished swimmer...and it looks like i was right...doesnt get much closer than .01 seconds...
When modifying font, try using < > instead of [ ]. I only use [ ] when linking. I use < > for everything else. Also lowercase letters work better.
Cincinnati and New Orleans still need a representative in the Armchair GM Mock Draft. Care to help? Remember all those votes and edits I gave your tourney? Go to the Mock Draft page to sign up!
Your bracket has been disqualified in the Stiles 9th or worse seeds tournament as you have made picks of seeds that were better than #9.
You are now responsible for the torture of cute dogs.
You've successfully posted a bracket for "Spring Silliness", maybe you can help me out. I've posted mine, but my max points is zero. It says Done next to each region but I'm worried something is wrong. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the heads up--I've been waiting for it. I can't believe your first one got 20 votes but so few comments. Strange.
I've got a couple tourney picking methods you could use. One is 'majority rules'--espn.com or yahoo (or both, I don't recall) keeps a 'master bracket' based on everyone's combined picks. The other is 'most fans'--yahoo has Fans vs Fans, in which they have set up public groups of fans for each school, and they have a list of the largest groups. For example, right now the top five are UNC, Duke, UCLA, Texas and Kansas.
Also, I know part of your bit is the crazy bracket, but I think you should consider actually testing the theories. I would suggest creating a league at espn.com or yahoo and posting a Locker Room article here listing the methods and asking people to select one, edit the article with their name by their method, and enter the league. They should name their bracket for their method so it's easy to see which ones are doing the best. Doing it this way, you could even open it up to other methods and not limit it to the original 32.
Again, I find this whole idea absolutely fascinating.
hey, wanna help me with this? I could really use the assistance.
I think it's the 4 character minimum. I'm with you on the numbers thing--I excuse myself because 24 was "my number"--I didn't do it because 1-23 were already taken or use my zip code or anything. Although, come to think of it, I started using "taytay_24" as a username sometime around 1998. But I can't be bothered learning something new now.
As far as being condesending, I'm not sure from whince I spoke with an overlord-type superoirty or... er, okay I guess I have patronized you at points, for that I apologize when it was undeserved.
But I think you have me kinda confused. I'm really straight forward, I agree or disagree based on the merits of each individual situation. I do my best not to hold grudges or foes and I certainly don't see you as either. We don't agree on a lot of things and I'm more then okay with that. I'm not scared to ever call out something I disagree with or think is wrong. Am I wrong sometimes? Ya. When I've come to realize I am in fact in the wrong I'll come out and admit that fault.
I don't play by the political correctness rules, I don't play by the rules of the sandbox. If you don't want your opinion subjected to mine, keep it to yourself. I refuse to hide behind those curtains because I speak my mind, which I most definetly did in Jamel's case.
Ok Pip, by freaked out you mean what I said to Jamel right? I disagree if you think my calling out Jamel for what he is, a self-perpecuating racist who plays victim makes me self-rightous then your judgement is misplaced. I'm not standing on a soapbox wagging my finnger at Jamel, I'm telling him just what he is.
Hey:
I wrote up some tips and guidelines for AGM beat writers. Please read them over when you get a minute.
This message is going to all "beat writers", not just you, so if you already read the page I'm pointing out, cool. Thanks!
