Thanks for the article link. I just added it as a source to my post. My favorite part was "It is unclear why the police have detained people who sought permission to protest." Isn't it perfectly clear? I was doubtful about the protest zones anyway. I don't know where they were in Beijing, but I'm guessing it wasn't near any venues--they tried to do the same thing here last year during the APEC meetings. And my doubts were before they never even allowed anyone to use the zones, which of course was also predictable.
