He was a great player in the minors. Powerful bat. Decent major leaguer. Not much in the personality department. When I interviewed him at the Triple-A All-Star Game in Indianapolis in 2001 I thought he was going to be a big-leaguer, but he probably needed to hire a PR person to invent a life for him. He was a QB at UT, Austin before he decided to go to baseball pro. When he was called up his first time at bat I heard that he banged out a triple, and a-la Pete Rose, he stole home by plowing the catcher and taking the base. Apparently he got fined for the privilege because he failed to listen to the third base coach. Since then he's been an on-and-off again player. Not bad. Not Yankee material.
