Estebistec's Board-To-Board with DNL
I'm starting to think this isn't going to go so well if we have to drag the participants back to get the draft going. I think Prophet messaged most of them the other day...
I like it. We still get players through at a high rate and multiple bids means it's back closer to a real auction-market. Do you want to set a deadline for Friday and settle one league to move on with?
Basically, we do it like this:
- Day 1: Everyone puts up 4 players for auction, putting 32 players in the first pool. Everyone puts in a silent bid on each player (if they want).
- Day 2:
- We reveal the bids on the first pool and open it up to a second silent bid.
- Everyone puts in another 4 player, creating the second pool. Bidding is open on the second pool, too.
- Day 3:
- Repeat day 2, adding another pool and allowing for third-round bids (the final round) on pool one and second-round bids on pool two.
- Day 4 through 7: Repeat until we've done our 200 players. I think six rounds does it and the 7th is an optional round to add in fillers.
What do you mean by 3 shots? Reveal three sets of silent bids, each time with the auction to move up some and claim the lead?
I completely agree that it isn't ideal. The only way I see a regular auction working to start out the league is if it is in fact not an *auction* draft, i.e., I don't believe we have the time for each owner to take turns putting up a player of his/her choice. We would have to allow multiple players to be put up and once. In fact I don't know if there can be a limit, especially with the holding time we'll have to require on a high bid to allow folks like Alex in GMT+1 (I think it is) a fair shake at deciding on each player.
Did you see the idea I had in the comments on one of the league pages within the last week? It was basically about a way to hopefully speed up the auction draft. It goes (each day):
- Every owner submits a player that they want to put up for auction. This can be done in a set order (which would be determined by record after year 1).
- Every owner puts in a silent bit on every player put up for auction that day.
- Determine who got the winning bid for each of the players put up the previous day (starts day 2; this and the next step should probably be at the top of the day).
- Contracts declared now or allow them to be specified at any time up until the beginning of the season? (Or a set time limit, like 3 days after the draft ends).
This would get us bidding/award 12 players a day and we could reasonably have a full auction draft.
The one big drawback is that it's not a full, open auction and we won't know 100% what a player's market value is. Somebody could get lucky.
And we're still waiting to see who's really into these rules and wants to be a part of this kind of league. My brother has put himself on the list yet, but he'd be pretty serious/no-nonsense about it. I kind of want to give it a couple days more and see where we are.
oh, post the article as an opinion... if it gets moved, move it back and put a comment in saying you discussed it w/me :)
Nice. I guess I haven't had time to fully explore the feature set since AGM got it's upgrade. I'll post the article and we can see what happens.
