Alex Holowczak's Board-To-Board with The Pip
Indeed. :-P I had a huge problem with it for that very reason, and it's why I chose the alternative version. It was a bugger to do. A little tip, you're probably doing this anyway, set up a spreadsheet to do it all for you. I had something for my rating system where all the Maths was done for me, I just had to type in results, and copy and paste the relevant results for each player to calculate the rating.
The "base ranking" comes from either the preseason poll or it would work like the BCS, where we wait a month and a half before we calculate. I'll have to go back a season or two just for smaple size and system tweaking. I just want to get something flowing in real time. 119 is a crapper of a sample size though.
This may be of help to you: http://ratings.fide.com/calculators.phtml
Note that there are three calculators - you should only need 1 and 3. FIDE's system is complex in that the value of k is important to stop inflation/deflation. I use the ECF system for my school, it's easier to maintain! :-P
It was sometime last football season, and I was looking for it because I realized it might be time to start fiddling with the idea. Either way, I just realized, it does not matter if we can't find the post because I can just google some chess scoring tables and start from there.
You suck at searching, but you WIN at brainstorming.
Crikey. How long ago was that? I've had a brief search of the whole site, for "FIDE", "Chess", "ELO" and "Rating" and combinations of them, and they either spew out Chess articles or articles where those words form part of other words. E.g. bona fide. So, I've had little success with it. I'm fairly certain I said it - it sounds like something I'd suggest. :-P Problem is, the archives are so big, that the comment/article/whatever could be anywhere. I'm sorry I can't be of much help. The only thing I can suggest is to keep searching for words related to chess, and hope to stumble across it. I'm not sure if it even covers comments, so if I mentioned it in a comment, you could be there for a while. Out of curiosity, might I ask why you need it?
Could you possibly point in the direction of a post or comment or article or lockerroom that you suggested a possible adaptation of Chess ranking tables for use with college football? I'm fairly certain you wrote it, but I could be 100% wrong.
Thank you, Pip
