Shimmering T: Week 6 Start/Sit
| 2
|
Welcome to Week 6’s Start/Sit column in honor of Kris Brown and Drew “LaBeouf” Brees. I have noticed that this column has been fairly negative thus far, which is completely out of character for the Shimmering T. So, I would like to dedicate this column to my greatest fantasy football man-crush: Ronnie Brown.
For two seasons I have been in Ronnie’s corner, picking him in the first round of my keeper league two years ago and keeping him despite other players of a high caliber gracing my squad. I saw the tools: speed, size, power, agility, patience, hands. This guy had it all; but for some reason he either split carries (Year 1) or was forgotten after the first quarter (Year 2). Last year he had a respectable 4.2 yards/carry average, but Nick Satan would abandon Running Ronnie—regardless of the score—with 45 minutes left in the game so Joey Harrington could play the piano. Then Year 3 begins with rumors of Jesse Chatman eating his starting role. Two weeks into the season, Ronnie’s most ardent fan, the Shimmering T., was about to jump ship. But then, Cam Cameron decided to try running him more than 20 times. Last year when Brown ran the ball 20 or more times, the Dolphins were 3-2, compared to 3-8 in other games. What followed can only be described as personal triumph and fantasy gold. Now Ronnie is making Big Papa T the proud owner of the most talented fantasy back in the NFL. He runs behind one of the worst lines in the NFL, but still has a 5.1 y/c average and leads running backs in receptions. Put this guy behind a mediocre line and he would be a sure fire Hall of Famer. That’s right, crown his ass. So, Ronnie, thank you for making my fantasy season bearable and thank you for beginning to fulfill your fantasy promise. I look forward to this year being one of many championships for us to enjoy together. Run, Ronnie, Run…
On to this week’s start/sit:
Here are the details that decide wins or losses: 17 points for a QB, 10 points for a RB or WR, 6 points for a TE, 8 for kickers, and 8 for defenses, all based on the following standard fantasy scoring (QB 20y = 1, TD = 4, INT = -2, FUM = -1; QB, RB, WR, TE 10y = 1, TD = 6, FUM = -1; K 0-39 = 3, 40-49 = 4, 50+ = 5, XP = 1; DEF Sack = 1, INT = 2, FUMRec = 2, TD = 6, Safety = 4).
Last Week: 14-13 Season Record: 82-70-2 or 54% QB: 11-14 RB: 17-11-1 WR: 15-13-1 TE: 9-15 K: 14-7 DEF: 17-8
Starts (Kris Browns):
The following matchups are of players who are questionable starts for many fantasy owners, who should start this week based on their matchup (named each week for the player who most took advantage of his matchup the previous week):
QB:
Matt Hasselbeck, NO @ SEA
New Orleans is the team you want your QB to play each week.
Brian Griese, MIN @ CHI
The Michigan product seemed to grab hold of the offensive reins in the second-half last week. With the Minny run D, the Bears will attack through the air.
Kurt Warner, CAR @ ARI
Kurt Warner doesn’t just really, really, really love God. He is God this week.
RB:
Larry Johnson, CIN @ KC
Note to Johnson Owners: This week is the test. Kansas City’s only hope of slowing down the Cinci offense, coming out of the bye week, is to run the ball and keep Palmer and Co. off the field. As a result, Larry should get upwards of 30 carries this week. If he can’t run against Cinci, he is worthless this season.
Adrian Peterson, MIN @ CHI
I went against my lovechild and was put in my place two weeks ago. If the Packers can run wild on the Bears, Peterson should at least be able to continue his string of 100+ total yard games.
Jason Wright or Jamal Lewis, MIA @ CLE
Once you find out that Lewis isn’t playing, hop on the waiver wire and grab Wright. He could be the best bye-week fill-in…ever.
WR:
Dwayne Bowe, CIN @ KC
Kansas City will have to throw to stay in the game, and LJ will need a breather. Cinci’s pass D is atrocious.
Nate Burleson and Bobby Engram, NO @ SEA
The ‘Hawks don’t have any WRs, but you don’t need any to beat the Saints through the air.
Marques Colston, NO @ SEA
This could be the day that Brees blows up, but I can’t risk it. Colston should get 100 yards on an overrated defense whether he does or not. Note: Who thought I would ever start Brian Griese over Drew Brees this year?
TE:
Greg Olsen, MIN @ CHI
Chicago TEs are the only receivers who can catch.
Desmond Clark, MIN @ CHI
See above.
K:
I would just like to point out that I picked both Nick Folk and Kris Brown as 2 of my 3 start picks. I’m not talented, bu I know kickers.
Matt Stover, STL @ BAL
Should have plenty of red zone opportunities, but I don’t trust the Ravens offense to cash them in for 7.
Phil Dawson, MIA @ CLE
The Browns should be able to put up a lot of points on the Dolphins, including three field goals.
Nate Kaeding, OAK @ SD
This will be a bend but don’t break game for the Raiders, as they limit the Chargers to 1 TD and give up 3 FGs.
DEF:
Giants @ ATL
Giants have been sack machines of late and Atlanta gives up a lot of sacks.
Browns vs. MIA
A lot of people are saying that Cleo Lemon is a decent bye-week pickup. Did those people see him play last year?
SIT (Drew Breeses):
The following matchups are of players who would be likely starts, who are in for a rough time because of their matchups (named each week for the player who took advantage of his matchup the least last week):
QB:
Philip Rivers, OAK @ SD
The Raiders became a defensive juggernaut beginning Week 6 last year. I think they send Rivers back to Earth.
Matt Schaub, HOU @ JAX
The Jacksonville D has been solid and Schaub’s limited options seem to be catching up with him.
RB:
Marion Barber, NE @ DAL
I think New England will come out strong and leave Romo and the passing game playing catch up.
Cedric Benson, MIN @ CHI
Not sure if he belongs here still, but he’s been successful for me thus far. Could average negative yards per carry against Min D.
WR:
Donald Driver, WAS @ GB
Has slowed down a bit the last couple weeks and I am a believer in the Redskins pass D.
TE:
Jason Witten, NE @ DAL
Witten is playing way too far over his head. New England will find a way to take away Romo’s safety valve and force him to throw to receivers who catch one our of every two well thrown balls (TO and Crayton).
K:
Josh Brown, NO @ SEA
Lots of points, but lots of TDs.
Jeff Wilkins, STL @ BAL
Won’t have too many opportunities this week.
DEF:
Cowboys vs. NE
In a statement game, the Patriots will tear them to shreds.
Good luck this weekend,
