Shimmering T: Week 10 Start/Sit
| 2
|
This is a big week for the Shimmering T. and the Flea Fanatics, as they make the yearly pilgrimage from Boston, New York, and other locales to Providence for BeerFest Bowl IV. A time-honored tradition, the BeerFest Bowl pits Team Tall in the Pants (Shimmering T., Golden Boy, Fleafounder, and a few of our friends) against Team Tall (Yammy, Fatty, CubanC, and some few hookers off the street) in a battle for pride and bragging rights. In Flea Fanaticland there are two seasons—the time between November and May when the winning team brags about their victory and the period between June and November when we talk trash about who will win the next big game. Last year it was Team Tall in the Pants who bucked the odds to take home their first BeerFest Cup, with Golden Boy taking home the MVP. This weekend’s game should be exciting with Team Tall undoubtedly showing less heart than the Patriots Offense and Team Tall in the Pants using every ounce of their skill to overcome historic odds and achieve another victory. I have no doubt that you will hear about the results for the next six months. In other news, it is a big fantasy weekend…so…on to this week’s picks…
Here are the details that decide wins or losses: 17 points for a QB, 10 points for a RB or WR, 6 points for a TE, 8 for kickers, and 8 for defenses, all based on the following standard fantasy scoring (QB 20y = 1, TD = 4, INT = -2, FUM = -1; QB, RB, WR, TE 10y = 1, TD = 6, FUM = -1; K 0-39 = 3, 40-49 = 4, 50+ = 5, XP = 1; DEF Sack = 1, INT = 2, FUMRec = 2, TD = 6, Safety = 4).
Last Week: 8-18-2 Season Record: 136-119-5 or 53% QB: 20-21-2 RB: 30-18-2 WR: 26-22-1 TE: 14-24 K: 25-13 DEF: 22-19
Starts (Joseph Addais):
The following matchups are of players who are questionable starts for many fantasy owners, who should start this week based on their matchup (named each week for the player who most took advantage of his matchup the previous week):
QB:
J.P. Losman, BUF @ MIA
Losman is riding the hot hand and continues to get Lee Evans the ball, a connection I have ridden for the past two weeks. Why stop now?
Marc Bulger, STL @ NO
Bulger had a weekend to rest following one of his best games of the season. He should put up solid fantasy numbers trying to catch up with the Saints offense.
Kurt Warner, DET @ ARI
The Lions D has been solid two weeks running and Warner looked terrible last week. Well, nothing makes sense this season, and I think the Cardinals will go for the win through the air.
RB:
Kevin Jones, DET @ ARI
The Lions will take the opposite approach of the Cardinals by attacking on the ground. The Cardinals have a solid pass D but are weak against the run. Jones will get at least 1 TD.
Jesse Chatman, BUF @ MIA
Chatman has looked good subbing for Run Ronnie Run and shouldn’t have too tough a time running against a mediocre Bills D. Anything to keep the Miami D off the field, please.
Maurice Morris, SF @ SEA
Morris looked solid out of the backfield last week spelling a terrible and injured Shaun Alexander. I think it’s time for Shaun to join the ministry after threatening for so many years.
WR:
Greg Jennings, MIN @ GB
Huge game. I repeat, huge game.
Larry Fitzgerald, DET @ ARI
Larry has been the favorite target of Kurt and has been unspectacularly consistent this year. Look for another 6 catch, 100-yard game, this time with a TD.
Lee Evans, BUF @ MIA
See, Losman, J.P.
David Patten, STL @ NO
Patten has been an unheralded star for the Saints during their resurgence. I said at the beginning of the year that drops would stop Deverey Henderson from becoming a threat, I just didn’t know it would be Patten to take over.
TE:
Donald Lee, MIN @ GB
Huge game for Favre and Co.
Jeremy Shockey, DAL @ NYG
Shockey will come up big in this game, but it won’t be enough to get the Giants the W.
K:
Mason Corsby, MIN @ GB
The Packers will put up points and Crosby will get his share.
Jeff Reed, CLE @ PIT
The Browns defense is terrible against the run and terrible against the pass. They can’t defend the uprights either.
Josh Brown, SF @ SEA
San Fran’s defense has looked awful the last two weeks. Will Mike Nolan’s suit this week match the pink slip he will be getting at the end of the season?
DEF:
Packers vs. MIN
The Packers D will be top-5 going out, with solid matchups in all weeks but one.
Bills @ MIA
The Bills D has looked decent from a fantasy perspective and the Dolphins offense makes it even more formidable.
Panthers @ ATL
The Panthers D should make it two good games in a row against an anemic Piano playing offense.
Sit (Shaun Alexanders):
The following matchups are of players who would be likely starts, who are in for a rough time because of their matchups (named each week for the player who took advantage of his matchup the least last week):
QB:
Donovan McNabb, PHI @ WAS
The Redskins pass D has had two tough weeks in a row, but should rebound against a questionable Eagles passing attack.
Derek Anderson, CLE @ PIT
I like Anderson a lot, but the Steelers are playing well and the terrible towels will be going strong in Pittsburgh.
RB:
Maurice Jones-Drew, JAX @ TEN
Mojo hasn’t been getting as many touches as I’d like to see, since I own him in a few leagues, and the Titans run D has been nothing short of tremendous.
Clinton Portis, PHI @ WAS
I could run for 190 and a TD against Jets; this week they face a top-10 run D.
WR:
Chris Henry, CIN @ BAL
I am a big fan of him as a late season addition off the waiver wire, but I want to see results before he enters my lineup.
TE:
Chris Cooley, PHI @ WAS
Cooley is a scary proposition for his fantasy owners, particularly those headed for the playoffs, since he has the potential to put up a major dud with Campbell behind center. This will be one of those days.
K:
Phil Dawson, CLE @ PIT
I have ridden Dawson for two weeks now, but I think the Steelers have the ability to slow down the Browns. Heinz field is also a tough place to kick in the cold.
Jason Elam, DEN @ KC
I go with Elam one week and he puts up 1 XP. I hate him even more.
DEF:
Giants vs. DAL
The Giants D is solid, but the Cowboys are solider on offense.
Chargers vs. IND
Poor Chargers will get the brunt of the Colts anger after blowing the game against Patriots. Wayne has to be kicking himself.
Well, I’m off to BeerFest and hope to return with the BeerFest Cup in one hand and the MVP in the other. Good luck to all of you this weekend,
