Shimmering T.: Week 4 Start/Sit

|
I try not to be bitter, but it’s impossible not to be. I am coming off a terrible week, while The Talented Mr. Douchebag is flouting his competence. Here is a list of players he is choosing to Microsoft excel this week: Donald Driver, LaMont Jordan, Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Terrell Owens, Shaun Alexander, Frank Gore, Joseph Addai, LaDainian Tomlinson, Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, Brady, Moss, and the list goes on and on. He counts these towards his percentage correct! What a sham. Who in their right mind wouldn’t start those guys? That’s what gets me; this guy isn’t in it to help fantasy owners, he’s in it for himself. Talented Mr. Selfish. With that said, I will continue to bring you the tough decisions that face fantasy owners every week and not insult your intelligence. With that, here are this week’s matchups…
Here are the details that decide wins or losses: 17 points for a QB, 10 points for a RB or WR, 6 points for a TE, 8 for kickers, and 8 for defenses, all based on the following standard fantasy scoring (QB 20y = 1, TD = 4, INT = -2, FUM = -1; QB, RB, WR, TE 10y = 1, TD = 6, FUM = -1; K 0-39 = 3, 40-49 = 4, 50+ = 5, XP = 1; DEF Sack = 1, INT = 2, FUMRec = 2, TD = 6, Safety = 4).
Season Record: 52-42-2 or 55% QB: 8-10 RB: 10-6-1 WR: 8-9-1 TE: 6-8 K: 8-5 DEF: 12-4
Ronnie Browns:
The following matchups are of players who are questionable starts for many fantasy owners, who should start this week based on their matchup (named each week for the player who most took advantage of his matchup the previous week):
QB:
David Carr, TB @ CAR
We finally get to see what Carr can do with a decent offense; should be interesting. I think he does fine.
Brian Griese, CHI @ DET
I am also bitter that I have grad school, an internship, and work early in the week, so McD-Bag gets his picks out before me. I think this one will be a shootout, as the Lions have proven that they can throw on anyone.
Daunte Culpepper, OAK @ MIA
Culpepper is pissed. Does he get 2 extra points for kneeing Cam Cameron in the groin after the game?
RB:
Marshawn Lynch, BUF @ NYJ
I am a changed man…for a week. I was impressed by Lynch last week, he brings the same tools as Run Ronnie Run Brown, and the Jets are horrible on run D.
Cedric Benson, CHI @ DET
Benson should get a number of carries in the red zone.
Julius Jones, STL @ DAL
I think Julius steals the show this week with a long TD run.
WR:
Laveranues Coles, NYJ @ BUF
Debatable selection because he is a solid WR, but in one of my teams I am choosing Coles over Chris Chambers to start so I figure someone else has a similar dilemma.
James Jones, GB @ MIN
Jones has been getting decent yardage, he’s just missing that breakout game. Favre and the passing offense will get plenty of opportunities to throw; I think the Packers may run it 5 times total.
Lee Evans, NYJ @ BUF
Buy Lee Evans now…in other news, I was also impressed by Trent Edwards despite his struggles.
Anthony Gonzalez, DEN @ IND
My major sleeper of the week pick, if you are severely struggling to find a WR Gonzalez might be the guy. The Colts know how to take advantage of a defenses weakness and stay away from their strengths—Champ Bailey and Dré Bly for the Broncos. As a result, Manning will target Gonzalez in the slot more often, which should lead to solid production.
TE:
David Lee, GB @ MIN
Surprisingly solid thus far this season and should get plenty of opportunities through the air and in the red zone.
Owen Daniels, HOU @ ATL
Another debatable call, but how deep can you really get with tight ends? I have Chris Cooley in a few leagues and picked Daniels over Lee in two.
Greg Olsen, CHI @ DET
First real healthy week against a D softer than the Pillsbury Doughboy…Whoopee!
K:
Mason Crosby, GB @ MIN
In a dome, huge leg, and I love kickers against Minnesota D.
Kris Brown, HOU @ ATL
I see yardage, but difficulty putting it in the end zone for Houston.
Robbie Gould, CHI @ DET
Shootouts are good for kickers and Gould should return to form for a week. By the way, remember when I said Gould and Kaeding would struggle this year? I’m good with kickers.
DEF:
Colts vs. DEN
I like this matchup for the Colts. I think the Colts get on top, Cutler is forced to throw, and he continues to make mistakes. I also think the Colts match up well against Denver’s zone-blocking scheme because of their speed.
Green Bay @ MIN
I think Minnesota will be forced to throw. That is a scary thought.
Texans @ ATL
The Texans are still owned in only 50% of Fleaflicker leagues, so they still qualify. Joey Harrington has the potential for a great game every 6 years, like the Oregon vs. Colorado Fiesta Bowl performance that got him 6 years and counting in the NFL.
Jason Campbells:
The following matchups are of players who would be likely starts, who are in for a rough time because of their matchups (named each week for the player who took advantage of his matchup the least last week):
QB:
Matt Schaub, HOU @ ATL
Matt has the Daunte Culpepper factor this week, although he should love the Falcons for trading him to an up-and-coming team and getting him off a sinking ship. Atlanta’s pass D has been surprisingly good, and I don’t see anything spectacular for Schaub.
RB:
Adrian Peterson, GB @ MIN
This pains me because I love All Day, but this is not a good matchup for him. In my keeper league I am starting Ronnie Brown over him. I think Minnesota will be forced to throw and Taylor will steal enough carries to keep Peterson under 10 fantasy points.
Edgerrin James, PIT @ ARI
The bad news: The Steelers have not allowed a 100-yard rusher for 28 straight weeks. The good news: Edge was the last one to do it. The bad news: He was on the Colts.
Travis Henry, DEN @ IND
As I mentioned before, I like the Colts rush D matchup against the Broncos and think that the Colts will be up big. Denver always struggles against the Colts.
WR:
Marvin Harrison, DEN @ IND
He’s been held under 100 yards for three straight weeks. I think Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez do most of the damage.
Deion Branch, SEA @ SF
Branch has been hot the past two weeks, but the San Francisco Bay will cool him down.
Kevin Curtis, PHI @ NYG
A hunch on this one, I just think huge-week-out-of-nowhere followed up with worst-pass-d-in-history sounds too good to be true.
TE:
Tony Gonzalez, KC @ SD
Gonzalez has been very mediocre this year and San Diego’s “Sugar Shane Mosley” defense is quick.
Ben Watson, NE @ CIN
Watson has been money in the red zone, but I think he doesn’t score for the first time this season in the game that he should.
K:
Jeff Wilkins, STL @ DAL
I bailed on Wilkins in a few leagues in favor of Nick Folk. St. Louis O is struggling and Wilkins has been uncharacteristically inaccurate. Say that three times fast.
DEF:
Vikings vs. GB
I think Green Bay will rack up yards in the air and limit the sacks on Favre.
Bears @ Lions
I waffled on this one, but if you have another solid D with a good matchup, this might be the game to sit the Bears. The D is banged up big time and you can only hope to slow down the Lions offense.
Finally, our best friend also said that he doesn’t like Kelly Holcomb this week. I don’t like any football player whose first name is Kelly.
Thanks for reading and listening to my bitterness. Good luck in your leagues this week,
