Remembering 9/11

This may not have too much to do with sports, but it has left a big affect on this country, and it hasn't been talked much about today. So, since today is the 6th anniversary of the tragedy that affected the entire United States, I thought it would be a good time to write this article:
On September 11th, 2001, nineteen terrorists affiliated with Al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial planes, and intentionally crashed two of them into the World Trade Center in New York City (one in each tower), and both towers collapsed soon afterwards also putting irreparable damage in nearby buildings. The hijackers crashed the third plane into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia near D.C. Passengers and and members of the flight crew tried to retake control of the fourth plane, but it ended up crashing into a field in a town called Shanksville in Somerset county, Pennsylvania.
About 2,974 people died plus the 19 hijackers as an immediate result of the attacks. About 24 more people were reported missing, and were presumed dead, plus there was at least one person who died from lung disease as ruled by medical examiners as a result of exposure to the WTC dust.
This tragedy affected the entire U.S. I remember I was in fourth grade back then (I am now in 10th), and we left school half a day because of the attacks, and you have to remember that I live all the way in MD. I just remember sitting in the cafeteria and wondering why everyone was getting picked up early by their parents, and later we were told that foreign hijackers crashed a plane into the World Trade Center. Back then I didn't really care, I was only 9, so I was just happy to get out of school early. But, today, I deffinitely realize how big this was, and it changed America. Today, there is so much more security, everywhere you go. So, this did affect sports, too. Especially all the New York teams, plus there is so much security in every stadium you go through, and many airports are more strict then what they used to be.
I know that there hasn't been much talk about the anniversary today, because everyone is still worried about Kevin Everett. Well, I am certainly still worried about him, but i'm surprised that there hasn't been more talk on here about this, it doesn't matter if there isn't really sports involved, it has to do with the real world. I love sports, but the real world is more important most of the time than sports, it's kind of like High School sports where all your coaches say that your a student first, then an athlete, so if you don't have good grades, then you can't participate in sports.
This is to all the families that have lost loved ones on this day six years ago, my prays are with you, as with Kevin Everett and his family, although it looks as if he will be able to walk again eventually. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
