Random Thoughts and Brutal Honesty 10/8/07

believe it's time for some random thoughts and absolutely brutal honesty after a whirlwind of developments on and off the playing field.  So without further adu....here goes.

- Chad Pennington's time is 3....2...1....up.   Chad Pennington has been one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL despite his dismal arm strength due to his high rate of mental fortitude.  But each and every fan of the J-E-T-S has to look at the past two performances by Pennington as an indication that it's Kellen Clemens time.  Jerricho Cotchery and Lavarenous Coles would thrive under Clemens, who would open up the offense and stretch out opposing defenses.  The season is O-V-E-R for the NY Jets after yesterday's loss.  Their defense has a lot of guys who are not fit for the 3-4 defense especially Jonathan Vilma who only managed a grand total of 4 tackles yesterday.   And I could only imagine how long the walk was for CB Andre Dyson after his dismal display via Plaxico Burress.

-The Yankees won in spite of Steinbrenner's ultimatum, not because of it.  The Rocket has been put back in the launching pad for good after his recent injury flared up again. God only knows what he was doing on the mound in the first place.  Philip Hughes proved who should have really been starting Game 3 in the first place.  I also am perplexed with the decision to pitch Jaba for two innings with a five run lead.  Now Torre can't use him in Game 4 unless it's absolutely necessary and it can only be for less than 20 pitches if that.   The Yankees will win tonight {Paul Byrd} , but it's vital for Chien-Ming Wang and/or Mike Mussina to go deep as they can and Mo might have to have a 4-out save if necessary.  But the Yanks should do everything they can to avoid Jaba.

- Welcome back, San Diego Chargers.  Nice of you guys to finally show up.  Nice of Norv Turner to wake up from his trance and to get the ball to the current MVP of the NFL.    And at the same time, they've exposed the Denver Broncos and their powderpuff defense for the entire league to see.  The Bronco's won their first two games by game-winning FGs and then proceeded to be exposed in the next three games.   The Chargers showed who's really the most disappointing team in the AFC.

- Marion Jones, I thought I knew ye but it turns out that I hardly knew ye at all.   Return your medals and talk a long walk down the pit of despair and take your place in the Hall of Shame.   Let's try Common Sense 101 here:  If a man hands you a supplement of any kind and then proceeds to tell you not to tell anyone about receiving the supplement, wouldn't a red flag or light bulb go up in your head.   Oh, say Hi to Tim Montgomery who's already in the Hall of Shame.

- The Boston Red Sox are clearly the team to beat in this postseason.

- While I do question the legitimacy of Trent Green's hit, there is no questioning the disgraceful response by Travis Johnson.   Keith Olbermann was dead on with his pick again this week.

- The NFL really should lay off on it's hype of primetime games involving Reggie Bush until the New Orleans Saints decide to win a game.   The amount of dropped balls by their receivers made me want to quit my job, put on a Saints uniform and show them how it's done.

- I'm of the opinion that kickers don't win games.  But Kris Brown's unreal display yesterday against the Dolphins offered the strongest argument that it's indeed possible.

The NFL should stop hyping Bush altogether until he actually becomes an upper echelon player. He is not a bad runningback, but he isnt one of the tops in the league either. Does he even have a run over 20 yards yet in his carreer?

Why don't they hype Vince Young like this or LT?

Travis Johnson is a jerk. Everybody knows that Trent Green is a first class guy.
