At first, I thought it was because of the death of Cory Lidle, but it was rain that forced the postponement. Does anyone else think this benefits the Cardinals? They could rearrange their rotation and it gives Scott Rolen one more day to rest. It will be interesting to see if Tony LaRussa moves Jeff Suppan up to start Game 1 tomorrow. If so, Chris Carpenter could pitch twice in this series. That would be huge for St. Louis.

This also saves Bud Selig from making a tough decision on whether or not to call off the game due to a tragedy... and we know how Buddy is with decisions...

Big benefit for the Cards. First, it means they can have Carpenter go games 2 and 6. But the bigger deal is that there's no off-day between game 1 and 5. So whomever goes game 5 is going on short rest. Glavine doesn't like going short.

From Mets.com
The biggest departure from his routine will be having to pitch on three days of rest later in the series. But that will also be the case for Cardinals starter Jeff Weaver.
"Physically, it's not that big of an adjustment," said Glavine. "More than anything, you get geared up to pitch in the morning and you emotionally get yourself ready, and then you have to wait another day and go through it all again."
Glavine said that his outing in Game 1 wouldn't result in fewer pitches or innings because of the possibility of pitching in a Game 5 on Sunday. His approach will still be the same as he faces the Cardinals for the second time this year.

Game 1 is tonight. Game 2 is tomorrow. Tickets for Game 1 will be good tomorrow, while tickets to Game 2 are good tonight. I don't get it either.

"Does anyone else think this benefits the Cardinals?" - I'm not sure that's the greatest concern in the whole affair...

The game should have been played (weather permitting, of course) irrespective. There should have been a 1 minute silence though before the start of the game.

They said it would've been played had it not been for weather.

Does anyone know if there was something done at the start of the programing for that game? I turned to that channel about 6 mintues in to see a reporter talking about how the game had been postponed, but I missed the beginning.
