Londoners/British People/Soccer Fans...MegECass110 Needs Help!

So I'm going to London for four months in four weeks (that's a lotta fours...), and I need a little advice and have a couple of questions. A lot of this I kind find on my own, but a little help would be much appreciated.

Number one, I want to go to football (soccer) matches. Problem: I know nothing about the sport. Do you guys know of any good websites/books/other resources that would be helpful in helping me learning about the game...as I don't want to look like a dumb American. I know I can't become an expert, but a basic knowledge would be helpful.

Also, what's the best/cheapest way to get tickets for Premiership games?

Number two, when I get over there, what's the best way to keep up with football when I get over there? Good newspapers/blogs/tv shows?

Number three, what other sports are popular? Cricket and rugby, I'm guessing? Anything else I should know about sport in Britain?

Suggestions for pubs, night spots, lessons in London-speak, other places to see or assorted advice are also welcome. Post here or send me an email. I just don't want to land at Heathrow completely clueless.
