Favorite team in the Opposite conference/league of your favorite team?

Posted by Manny Stiles

A lot of discussion has transpired under the argumentative guise that is a disease called "Napitis", "Bandwagonia" or "Chronic Fanoid Schizophrenia". Symptoms often include crossdressing and suddenly having an article turn your career around (Eli, not you JuT).

It seems everyone on this site has a very special, heart-warming love for their #1 team.

But I ask you to name your preferred team in the opposite conference or league from your FAVORITE team.

For instance, I am a Rays fan primarily but this year my NL team to follow will be the Nats (Go, Elijah Dukes!!!)

In basketball, I basically live on Planet Orange - GO Suns!!!

But in the East, I want the Magic to win... until they play the Suns!!!

Etc. and so forth.

Who is your fave team in the other league/division??

In football, I always root for the Giants and whatever AFC team has control over my fantasy team's fate. It started off as the Kelly/Reed Bills (an affinity redoubled by my love for Sega's Tecmo Super Bowl) but went rotten in the late 1990s as my team featured Phil Dawson, Tim Couch, Willie Green, Kevin Johnson, and Dennis Northcutt -- so I was arguably the first Cleveland Browns 2.0 fan in New York. After a rebuiliding period (who woulda thunk it!) in which my team had not only Couch and Green, but also Ryan Leaf, Michael Vick, Ron Dayne, and Charles Rogers, I won the title this year -- featuring Brady-to-Moss. So I'm sadly a minor Patriots fan (but Go Giants!) Also, two of my favorite fantasy players are Neil Rackers and Anquan Boldin, and I'm a Larry Fitz fan anyway. So to some degree, I'm a Cardinals fan. They count as an "other conference" team because, well, it's not like they're a threat to the Giants -- or Boise State.

Oh, baseball: I typically don't root for anyone other than the Mets, but I tend to favor the Indians for some reason, and being a Yankee hater and having gone to school in Boston, I appreciate(d) the Red Sox. And today, I'm happy that the Twins exist! I tend to root for players who are non-Mets more than an AL team. I was a big Robin Ventura and Luis Castillo fan before they become Mets and am glad they came to Shea in home threads. John Olerud was one of my favorites even when he donned pinstripes.

football: Seattle Seahawks (Matt Hasselbeck went to my high school), and you gotta like Da Saints

baseball: Mets, because they have Pedro Martinez, and with Santana will piss off the Yankees

hockey: Detroit Red Wings, some of my favorite players play or have played for them. Hasek, Datsyuk, Larionov, Lidstrom, Yzerman, Chelios. They're also very fun to watch, so fluid with their passing

college football: here's where my fandom gets Napitis. I like Oklahoma and BC the most. But I also like Purdue, Alabama, Navy, and Harvard

college basketball: once again, OU and BC are my top 2. But I also like Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Fairfield, Gonzaga (liked them more before they were really good), and anyone playing Syracuse.

My teams are regional. I like supporting teams with people I may see at the grocery store.

Football: The Pack is first, obviously. I'll root for the Colts because I like both Dungy and Manning. All other teams allegiances are situational.

Baseball: Not a big fan since they canceled the Series, but I pay attention to the Tigers and the Brewers.

Hockey: Wings and only the Wings. I will root for Canadian teams simply for the sake of tradition.

Basketball: Pistons and Bucks. I like Garnett and Ray Allen, so I'm watching the Celts this year.

College Football; I will cheer for the Badgers in every situation. All other games are dependent on who is playing whom.

College Basketball: Phoenix and Badgers. Starting to follow IU and Purdue since we moved to Indiana.

Baseball: The Mets -- especially now that they have Santana. Yes, I'm shallow. Plus it's like an enemy of my enemy is my friend type deal because they have such a rivalry with the Yanks.

Football: I have feelings for football teams similar to DNL. Depending on who is on my fantasy team at the time, I'm usually a minor fan of that team as long as they're not playing the Pats. For instance this year I had Edge, Larry Fitzgerald and Neil Rackers on my team, so I watched a good chunk of every Cardinals game this year, and liked what I saw... kind of. So I guess I'm going to have to go with the Cardinals on this one.

Basketball: Since 2005, definitely the Suns -- since they're just so fun to watch on T.V. with their fast break style and Steve Nash's skills.

My teams:

Arsenal in the Premier League. No other Premier League or English club gets my attention. As far as others I somewhat like Colorado Rapids in MLS mainly because they signed a partnership with Arsenal. My local club the Pittsburgh Riverhounds are returning this season in the USL Division 2 so I shall be there singing them forward this coming season.

In the NHL there is only one team I like, the Pittsburgh Penguins. The rest of the teams can all get bent.

In baseball I used to love the Pittsburgh Pirates but with their current ownership group my passion for them is on hiatus. I really do not care for any other ball club.

NFL: Indianapolis Colts. I support the Seahawks, but on the AFC side I have always been a fan of Indy due to the style of play, Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy.

NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers. Actually....I support an imaginary basketball team that beat the Spurs, but the Cavs are my 2nd team to root for in the NBA. Star player, great fans, and they are learning how to beat the Pistons.

College Football: I support the University of Washington.......my fav in an opposite conference is actually Penn State. Can't you root for a coach in JoePa who is 132 years old?

College Basketball: Just UW.....

NHL: I support the Vancouver Canucks, but I love all Canadian teams....except the Leafs.

I only cheer for the Cubs, Bears and Bulls. If I followed hockey then add the Blackhawks to the list.

If I had to "follow" a certain organization from the oppposite conference/league (for purposes of answering the question to the community asked by the author) then I would select a west coast team of no preference. There is absolutely no way I would ever climb on a bandwagon on a team from New York/New Jersey or New England/Boston (east coast for that matter).

And if you are wondering if I will watch the Super Bowl, yes of course I am. All I ask for is a memorable well played game. However, regardless of which team wins, I won't be jumping up and down on the couch.

Fair enough?

Football - my team is the Steelers, but in the NFC I root for the Packers and always against the Cryboys.

Baseball - My team is the Pirates and since they suck balls I spend most of my time following my AL favorite the Indians.

Hockey - The Pens, I really don't have a favorite Western Conference team since I don't get much of a chance to see them. I used to like the Canucks when Bure played for them though.

Basketball - I don't really have a favorite team. I guess I'm a front runner, I just like to watch good basketball and don't have a local team to root for.

NCAA Footaball - Nebraska is my favorite, and after that, I just have a bunch of teams I don't like.

NCAA Basketball - Pitt is my hometown favorite and after that I root for Kentucky.

I've stated before that I have great difficulty saying I have a favorite team other than my true favs... but one case does come to mind. I'm a die hard Chargers fan, but have a certain affinity towards Bret Farve and the Packers. I don't outwardly root for them, but I do keep an eye on them. Now on the baseball front, there is no way I can root for anyone but the Yankees, and in college football, the is NO WAY, and I mean NO WAY I could openly cheear for another team.... it would feel like I cheated on my wife or something...

I think it is possible to have teams that you like that are in a different conference, especially when it comes to baseball. An NL and an AL team will rarely if ever cross paths. It is also possible for other sports. I am a Cowboys fan, but since I went to college in Cinci, I have some love for the Bengals. I'll even cheer for em when they dont play the boys. Now that being said, I think that fandom has to be tiered. YOu cannot be a diehard for both teams. You need a first team and then a backup plan. However, you will always be labled for the team you love the most.

Football: I root for the Purple in the NFC because they're my home town team.

Basketball: If I could stomach to watch the wolves, I might have a team in the east I followed as well. As for now, I follow the elite teams because I know I'll be able to watch them.

Baseball: I guess I'll be rooting for the Mets because of Santana :(

Hockey: I'm not into Hockey so much as I follow the wild, but if I picked one, I'd go with the penguins because of Sid the kid

Baseball: Yankees & Phillies. (I was actually a Phils fan first)

Football: Originally an LA Rams fan until the bitch moved them. Then the Cleveland Browns until they moved. I've been a closet Jets fan forever because of Joe Willie and because my uncle had Giants season tickets and he would never take me (asshole). So the answer is Jets first, and I'm trying really hard to be a Cardinals fan.

Basketball: Knicks and Suns

Hockey: Rangers and Coyotes

My teams are the Red Sox, 76ers (if I have a team), Eagles, and Flyers... the only team I would root for in another league/conference is the Atlanta Braves (I was raised a Braves fan because my step-dad is a front-runner and I didn't know any better)
