Celtics Win, Lakers/Celts in the NBA Finals

Flip Saunders sees his coaching tenure in Detroit in all likelihood end after blowing a 70-60 lead in the 4th quarter and losing 89-81 to the Eastern Conference Champion Boston Celtics.

Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce all get their deserved trip to the finals with their great careers.

Wow, Boston won 2 out of 3 games on the road in this series just when they were on the ropes after losing game 2.

Lakers/Celtics is your NBA Finals on Thursday, and my early prediction is sadly Celtics in 5. Kendrick Perkins has matured significantly, the Lakers have no answer for Garnett or Allen, this should be a breeze for Boston after a grueling road to the Finals. I think we're seeing the Boston of....the regular season.

For the Pistons, I knew this would happen eventually, I think we're witnessing a train wreck very soon in Detroit. Saunders is on the hot seat, McDyess and 'Sheed are old, I see guys like Billups leaving, it's another underachieving year for these guys.

Go on and celebrate you snobby annoying Boston sports fans.......another one of your teams is in a title game blah blah blah...seriously, congrats, and continue being snobby and arrogant.;-)

Celtics over Lakers in 5 is the early prediction from me, but I think you know who I'm rooting for.

Celtics in 5?! I don't know if it will be easier. The Celtics haven't faced the Lakers with Pau Gasol and the Lakers bench is a tad better than the Celtics. It will not be that easy.

Uh, have you seen Pau recently?

That dude is good, a nice shooter, but for **** sake he is soft. Perkins will eat him up.

That piece of garbage Rondo on the other hand.....

It's not even really Pau that they have to worry about, It's Lamar Odom. They have to keep him off the boards. Now of all the teams the Lakers have faced in the playoffs, they have the best chance to do it. But how will they match up with him offensively? I could see KG defending him at times, but I don't think Doc should waster KG's energy and put him in that position. Another interesting aspect is that Kobe may be definitely guarded by Pierce. Will this tire out Pierce similar to how he seemed to be fatigued guarding Lebron? If I were Boston, I'd let Pierce defend Kobe in the beginning, but I would bring Posey in in the early going and let him guard Kobe. This will allow Pierce to be aggressive offensively.

Odom is inconsistent. A strong rebounder, not afraid to go to the basket. However, he can't make free throws consistently, has no outside jump shot and turns the ball over many times.

If the Lakers execute offensively like they are capable of, then Lamar Odom can focus on rebounding and playing defense like he should. If the triangle offense works to perfection, Lamar should only be able to get good looks at the basket and/or drive to the basket. He's not a good outside shooter, so it's best for him to get high percentage shots.

Well, not to me. I said before this game began that if Boston won tonight, then I will have them to win the championship. They HAD to win this game tonight. Just to develop some killer instinct that they can carry to the Finals. If they had to play another Game 7, I would have picked the Lakers even if they survived due to the fatigue factor. But because of them winning tonight as well as the WAY they won, I think Boston will go in on a high now and most importantly, they will be a rested team. I say they win in 6.

If game 1 or game 2 goes to the Lakers then it is very interesting because only the Lakers have actually not lost at home.

If the Lakers are going to win a game on the road, then it will have to be the early games. Even though they are undefeated at home, it's not a guarantee to sweep in their home stint especially with Boston learning to play in the road in the postseason now.

Then again, the Pistons have lost a home game in nearly every series they've played in for the last several years. Come on, the 76ers beat them in game 1 and the Magic were a couple of plays away from beating them.

But the bottom line is that the Celtics at least have made progress playing on the road in the playoffs, regardless of how the team they played usually plays at home. It certainly beats going into the NBA finals 0-9 on the road, which would have been a nightmare.

They could have played the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals and won a couple of road games and it would have been less significant. What is significant is that you're seeing the Celtics finally at least play on the road somewhat comparitively to how they play at home.

The fact that they rallied won me over because Detroit was ready to run away with the game.

Me too. I was thinking to myself with Detroit up 70-60, "Well, it looks like Boston fans may have to sweat out another Game 7!". And then in comes Rasheed Wallace. On the Kendrick Perkins dunk during the comeback, he was slow on the rotation. Then he commits his 5th foul, bitches and moans all the way to the bench as well as the ESPN cameramen. Certainly, it takes a team to blow this game the way Detroit did. But I can't help but think that Rasheed deflated this team tremondously. Flip Saunders should have stuck with Jason Maxiell and his high energy. And speaking of Flip, it may be curtains for him. This is a bad way to get eliminated.

YES! I was wrong! Reverse... not psychology, but picking... always works for me (I thought the Pistons would make the NBA Finals, and I said the Spurs would make the NBA finals. So much for that. The NBA's biggest rivalry is coming back, once again. However, I guarantee you it won't be the same as the '80's.

Now I am convinced the NBA is one whole conspiracy. The two top of the market, historic teams go from broken franchises to representing their conferences in the finals? Kobe wanted out, Pierce was stranded in the northeast, they were simple disasters. The NBA is now struggling with ratings. How can they get back on top? Renew and old rivalry. What a facking conspiracy...

You can believe in NBA conspiracy - but all you're really doing is raising your own blood pressure.

Actually, I stopped watching when the Hornets and Cavs were eliminated. It doesn't bother me because I got baseball for now and I'm back into hockey. So the NBA is just an afterthought/joke to me now...

I don't think there is a conspiracy, they just need to fix the refereeing problem. The Refs in game 6 just sucked, on both sides of the ball. Plus Stern is not competent enough to fix the playoffs. Plus you know he'd be bragging about it if he did, He's far to arrogant to not take credit for something like that.

I agree with the Celtics winning and Kendrick Perkins being a key player. The Lakers are going to get smacked around and it takes more than one game to adjust to the physical style of play that Boston brings to the table. The Pistons already played tough defensive ball.

I disagree about the Pistons, they need to tweak their team (and possibly fire their coach), but they are not a trainwreck. Stuckey and Maxiel will be bigger names next season and should be mixed into the core not replace the core. The Pistons still have a lot to look forward to. The Spurs are the ones that need to be nuked, they are the '88 Celtics, it's over for them.

This is 3 years in a row they flop in the Conference Finals after having many chances to take control of the series...... They've lost at home in every one of them and they are getting old.

I think some significant subtractions and additions need to take place with the Spurs. However, Gregg Popovich and Tim Dunacn are the common denominators and they will still be there. And as long as they are there, you can trust that any new additions will be molded into the fold quickly. Spurs will be back before you know it, that's how good a franchise they are.
