English Premier League TV Schedule US/Canada

by SSreporters

The EPL starts tomorrow! So for the handful of users that actually care about soccer, here is the TV schedule to my knowledge for viewers here in the US, and to are lucky neighbo(u)rs Canada. All teams in bold are the home squads.

Fox Soccer Channel (Digital Cable) 8/11/07-8/12/07:

8/11

West Ham vs. Manchester City at 10:00 AM EST/ 7:00 PST Live

Aston Villa vs. Liverpool at 12:00 PM EST/9:00 AM PST Live

Portsmouth vs. Derby (pronounced Darby) at 2:30 PM EST/11:30 AM PST Taped

8/12

Arsenal vs. Fulham at 7:00 AM EST/4:00 AM PST Live

Manchester United vs. Reading at 11:00 AM EST/8:00 AM PST Live

Canada Schedule 8/11-8/12

Rogers Sportsnet (Cable)

8/11 West Ham vs. Man City 11:00 AM EST/8:00 AM PST Live

8/12- The Score (Cable)

Man United vs. Reading 11:00 AM EST/8:00 AM PST Live

Other 8 games are on Setanta Sports Canada, which is available for select cable companies due to the fact that it is a new channel.

It's an absolute disgrace! There once was a time when all the games started at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. Now games are strewn about all over the place, Friday night sometimes, Monday night sometimes, Sundays, Saturday lunchtimes, evenings etc. It's virtually impossible to be a fan these days.

You guys in the UK are lucky that Sky Sports gets everything, including Andy Gray.

Doesn't SKY get to alter the schedule as they see fit before the season starts, moving around games to suit their TV interests?

Er... Well, the EU outlawed that arrangement, Sky has a certain amount, so do Setanta, so do other Sky channels... There are loads of channels with this stuff on - non of which are terrestrial. Sky get first pick of what they broadcast though, I think (so they pick Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal...)

I consider myself lucky to watch the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. The CBC did an awesome job with the coverage, and I was surprised that BBC (Not Scotland) didn't pickup any coverage.

It's probably because we weren't in it? That's how poor our coverage was of it, I have no idea whether we were in it or not... But Sky would probably outbid us. All the BBC get is MOTD. ITV just bought the FA Cup, I think. BBC get home England matches. ITV get Football League Highlights and European Football. Channel 5 gets the odds and sods in the footballing schedule (UEFA Cup, e.g.)

I've looked at Canada's schedule, they get all of the matches of Euro 2008, exclusive Canadian rights to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Toronto FC matches, Italian Serie A, and French Ligue 1 matches. Here, we have the MLS, EPL, Euro 08, World Cup 2010, but on ESPN and FSC, which is somewhat painful.

We'll get Euro 2008 on a split deal between BBC and ITV - although both insist on showing the Final simultaneously, for some reason. We used to have Serie A on Channel 4, one live game a week, and a highlights show, and a rerun show. But they pulled the plug for some reason. It was a shame, the highlights show had a few classic catchphrases, the host always ended each episode with what sounds like "Oreeva derchee" but isn't that when written (means "goodbye" in Italian). Ah, memories of my childhood... :)

Also, I'm going by our time zone, so these games start no later than 12:00 in England.

You and Canada are lucky, you get Football on cable instead of digital. I guess Canada is showing how grateful they are to be a Commonwealth country.

I try and avoid watching soccer here in the States even though I'm an American. People will likely call me unpatriotic, but you know what? The US is terrible with football coverage.

As a non-cable TV owner, all I can see is highlights of all the games (22:30-00:00/23:30 on Saturday/Sunday, and repeat of Saturday's at 07:30-09:00 on Sunday morning). It's not good at all. We can't even see England play cricket live on terrestrial anymore... It's a joke.

Yeah, that's the programme I was describing. A bit awkwardly placed in the evening schedule (consider the young kids of 7-11 years of age). Too late on a Satuday, and too early on a Sunday. Okay, you can set the video/DVD recorder, but it's not ideal.

I've been trying to watch the MLS on ESPN and whatnot, but I find myself clicking on the mute button. I go to the CBC, who air Soccer just about every other week, and their announcers are great. The pbp man is Nigel Reed, who used to work with the BBC.

Sorry about the percieved spam, but this is the easiest way to communicate this message without posting it on a dozen boards (which I can't do anyway!) - but take a look at this lockerroom regarding ArmchairGM Fantasy English Premier League. It starts tomorrow, as you know, so if you'd like to play, then the time to join is now. Come join in the fun, and give us a large field to play with!
