AFC/NFC Wild Card Picks

It's playoff TIME!!!!!  Which means NO losing from here on out, you win, you move on.  You lose, and it's over 'till next year.  Here is my predictions for round ONE of the 2007-2008 NFL playoffs.

Saturday January 5th, 2008

NFC

6 Washington Redskins over 3 Seattle Seahawks (4:30 PM ET)

The death of teammate Sean Taylor helped the 'Skins overcome alot, and clinch the 6th seed of the playoffs with the win over the 13-3 Dallas Cowboys.  Washington is on a roll, and an overrated Seahawks team isn't going to stop them now.  After Jason Campbell went down, backup veteran QB, Todd Collins, stepped in and has done an awesome job, and leading them to 4 straight wins, finishing with a 9-7 record.  WAS 28 SEA 17

AFC

5 Jacksonville Jaguars over 4 Pittsburgh Steelers (8 PM ET)

I don't see the Steelers winning this game without Willie Parker, who broke his leg 2 weeks ago.  Even at home, the Jaguars will just run all over the Steelers D, with the dynamic duo of Fred Taylor, and Maurice Jones-Drew.  Ben Roethlisberger will have more pressure on him without Parker, and the Jags defense will take advantage of that.  I do think the Steelers will keep this game close, though.  JAC 24 PIT 21

Sunday January 6th, 2008

NFC

4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers over 5 New York Giants (1 PM ET)

Tampa's Cover 2 defense is going  to dominate the inconsistent Eli Manning, who hasn't had a very good career in the playoffs so far.  Both teams lack the running game they were supposed to have this year, but Earnest Graham has been doing pretty good, and Jeff Garica will be 100%.  Joey Galloway expects to have a big day against NY's secondary as long as Tampa's offensive line can stop pass rushers Michael Strahan, and Osi Umenyiora.  This game could get ugly, as a matter of fact.  NYG 14 TB 35

AFC

3 San Diego Chargers over 6 Tennessee Titans

This is another game that could get ugly, especially if Tennessee's Vince Young isn't 100% after tearing his quadricep in last week's win over the Indianapolis Colts to clinch the 6th seed.  Ladainian Tomlinson isn't just going to go out there and have fun in the playoffs, either.  He's there to win, especially after last year's loss to New England at home after their 14-2 regular season.  SD's offense will be on top of their game, and their defense will easily stop Tennessee's only strength on offense, the run game.  TEN 10 SD 31

Suppose Seattle beats Washington, will that shut everyone the hell up about this team (at least until they get smashed by Green Bay)?

I give Washington a great chance....but only 4 teams have beaten Seattle at Qwest Field in the last 3 years...that sounds like it's very hard to win in Seattle.

SS, everyone is picking Washington and Jacksonville cause they are the "teams no one wants to face" right now. But, you know, they don't say that about the teams that are actually good. Look for Seattle and Pittsburgh to show why they have such good home records.

look at the records of playoff teams at home in wild card weekend...5 adn 6 seeds don't win all that much...

i think its like 1 out of every 4 games...i.e. one "upset" each year in the WC round...that might be the giants over the bucs...

I don't know if Pittsburgh is healthy enough to win this game. Last I heard, Ben might not play, and the injury the bug seems to be biting hard. Jax already won in bad weather in Pittsburgh, so I assume they could do it again. I think the Skins can win in Seattle, but that 12th man in Seattle is a hard obstacle to overcome. Looking forward to it.

Good! Someone else picking the Buccaneers. Maybe they were just coasting in their last two games (losses to Houston and Carolina).

I have to disagree on that TB over Giants pick, especially with the score you are predicting. I am by no means a fan of either team, but you have to take a few things into consideration. Tampa finished 9-7 in a very weak NFC South. Playing 6 games in that division and going 5-1 is what landed them in the playoffs. They were 4-6 against the rest of the league. They only have one victory all year against a team that was over .500, and that was the Redskins, and that was when the Redskins were playing their worst football of the year during their 4 game losing streak. The G-men haven't exactly been dominating either, but they played a much tougher schedule, and finished with a better record. I think the Giants win this game running the ball with Jacobs and Bradshaw. They won't let Eli lose the game for them against that tough Cover 2

4-6? that's like saying most the Colts lost to the titans in week 17 and should be concerned about playing them again... in reality, the bucs went something closer to 9-5-2, as gruden gave in once they had the south wrapped up...

You really lost me on that JuTMSY4. That whole first part isn't making sense. I can understand the 2nd part. Even if they did punt those 2 games, they still were only the cream of the crop of a very weak NFC South.

This is a tough one though. The G-men played the Patriots well on both sides of the ball. If they can carry that energy into Tampa, the Bucs might be in trouble. Also, I believe the Giants only lost 1 road game all year. If Garcia can play the whole game, I think this might end up a 3 point game

my point is, you really can't count games that don't mean anything to one team... I agree, the bucs won a weak division...with that said they also played excellent defense all year and lost some stupid games as well...

That's what happens when you spend so much time voting.....you don't know what's going on in sports itself.

I got you now JuTMYS4. Just didnt understand your wording.

I also agree the Bucs played awesome D.

In my mind the game comes down to the Giants being able to run, and Garcia not getting killed by New Yorks pass rush. If Garcia can stay upright, I see him finding Galloway deep all day.
