Pacific Coast League
Carlos Villanueva, Mike Meyers and Alec Zumwalt combined on the 5th no hitter in team history. The feat came on Saturday night where the Sounds beat the Memphis Redbirds 2-0. In his first Triple-A start, Villanueva (1-0) struck out six and walked three over six innings. After throwing 86 pitches, the 22-year-old right-hander knew he was going to be taken out, despite some objections by veteran catcher Chad Moeller.
Meyers struck out three in two perfect innings, also unaware of the no-hitter until after he exited and pitcher Justin Lehr mentioned it. It was no shock to Zumwalt, who was fully conscious of being part of history in the making.
Using fastballs and sliders to record his eighth save, Zumwalt struck out Brian Martin and got former Major Leaguer Junior Spivey to ground out before Jason Conti struck out on a checked swing on a 2-2 count.
Outfielder Hiram Bocachia has been named PCL player of the week. Bocachia had 4 HR’s 12RBI’s & slugged for a .357BA for the week.
Starting pitcher Sun-Woo Kim has been named PCL pitcher of the week. Kim pitched a complete game shutout against the Fresno Grizzlies and collected 2 wins. The native of Inchon, South Korea has won four of his last five decisions and has now won three in a row, improving his season record to 5-and-3 with a 3.73 ERA.

Eastern League
Third Baseman and Eastern League All-Star Kevin Kouzmanoff is batting .419 at the break. Due to injuries, Kouzmanoff he doesn’t have enough plate appearances to qualify for the league or minor league batting title. Assuming he stays healthy, he could make a run at the magical .400 mark.
No one has hit .400 in the big leagues since Ted Williams hit .406 in 1941. Also, no one had hit .400 in the minors since Aaron Pointer hit .402 in 1961 in the now defunct Class D Salisbury in the Western Carolina League.

First baseman Nate Gold went deep 3 times, drove in 6 RBI’s and scored 4 times leading the RoughRiders to a 19-2 rout over the Tulsa Drillers.
