Giants on 9/30

People have talked about Sunday night being the turning point in the season for the New York Giants. They totally annihilated Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia offense. While the offense looked ok at some point during the game, it played well enough to win and Manning led an efficient offense all game.
This is entirely the wrong attitude to have. This was a sloppy offensive game with the offense accounting for 10 points, although they played well enough for more, and the defense dominating a two man team that was without one of those men.
Let us take this point by point. The offense was awful against a hobbled defense. Manning was 14 for 26 for a pathetic 135 yards while the running game was less than 100 yards for the game. They were aided by good field position when Jeff Feagles pinned the Eagles near their own end zone.
The defense played very well, but let us not confuse this team with one from years past. Donovan is a shell of the former passing/running threat he was when he came out of Syracuse, he has become much more immobile. They were without their best player Brian Westbrook a player who would have alleviated a lot of the pressure by running effectively and by catching the ball on the screen pass. They were also without their left tackle the most important offensive lineman because he protects a righty's blindside.
Do not let this confuse you, I am very happy the Giants won, and won handedly, but they also weren't facing world beaters playing at their best. Next up is a game against the Jets and I expect to see lots of Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward going up the middle which seems to be the Jets weak spot against the run.
