After about a month of voting, the ArmchairGM NFL Hall of Fame poll has finally closed. The initial rules were as follows:
"When all voting is complete, points will be added to see where the players rank overall agaisnt other players of the same . A first place vote is worth 5 points, a second place vote worth 4, third place worth 3, and so on. These polls will be open through August 31st.
All players or coaches with a score equal to the number of participants * 3 or higher will be inducted into the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame."
Unfortunately, only one to three players per position were being inducted with this scoring format, and the goal was to have the Top 5 players (roughly) at each position inducted. To make this happen, the induction format was changed to include all players with a score equal to the number of participants or higher.
Here is the list of players that are now members of the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame!
Players in italics would have been inducted using the original induction process. Players in bold next to their name were unanimously inducted as the #1 player at their position.

A few quick notes:
- Some of you may have noticed that the punter category is missing. This is because only one person voted in the punter category. The punter category remains open and will remain open until next week.
- Yes, Rod Woodson and Dick "Night Train" Lane appear twice. This is because each of them amassed enough votes in both categories to be inducted.
- For those users who believe that the number of players inducted into the Hall of Fame is already too many, I believe a viable solution would be a "Ring of Honor" system for only the top players ever, i.e. the players who were selected unanimously as the #1 player or perhaps even more exclusive.
So now there's one question...where do we go from here?
There are a few things that can happen involving the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame.
- First, we could leave things as they are. If they didn't get inducted now, they'll never get inducted!
- Second, we could allow other players or coaches in by a voting system in their profiles. Players or coaches that user thought should be members of the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame could visit that player's profile and list their username as someone who wanted that player in the Hall of Fame. A more sophisticated tool similar to the voting tab at the top of every news story and opinion could probably be used, but I don't have the wiki savvy to do so. Once a player received a certain number of votes (either a base number or a percentage of users), they would be inducted into the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame.
- Third, we could allow other players or coaches in using a little more effort by users. For example, if someone desperately wanted ex-Chiefs coach Hank Stram to be a member of the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame, they could write a "player biography" that would be posted on the front page in a similar way to news articles and opinions. Voting for Hall of Fame induction could take place at the bottom of each page, listing Hall of Fame supporters and Hall of Fame opposers (users would edit in their names). If a player received a designated number of votes for going into the Hall of Fame (six seems like a good number to me) and have more votes supporting the player than opposing the player, he would be inducted into the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame
- Fourth, we could use a combination of the second and third options, where players could be inducted in either of the two ways.
- Finally, we use some other induction process that is different from anything listed here.
Let the discussion begin!
