Pete Prisco is a writer for CBS Sportsline, and every week he does his NFL power rankings. Last week after Seattle lost to Cleveland in a thriller, he had them at 18th place. Fair enough, they were a .500 team at the halfway mark. This week, they beat the snot out of San Fran, a divisional rival who, had they won, would’ve been 1 game out of 1st place in the NFC JV West. You win 24-0, a key win that virtually kills all of San Fran’s hopes to win the divisional crown. So what does Pete do? He drops Seattle from 18th to 19th. HUH???!!! You win on national TV, and drop in the power rankings. Alright, before I start to believe that simple logic is a dying mentality, he lists the following team in front of Seattle:
Chicago Bears, 4-5, 3rd in NFC North, beat 2-7 Raiders 17-6. (ranked 18th)
New Orleans Saints, 4-5, beat Seahawks, 3rd in NFC South, lost to winless Rams at home 37-29 (ranked 17th, before Rams' loss, 16th)
Arizona Cardinals, 4-5, beat Seahawks, 2nd in NFC West, beat Lions after a 3 game losing skid (ranked 15th)
Kansas City Chiefs, 4-5, 2nd in AFC West, lost 2nd straight home game (ranked 16th)
So what is the pattern here? You have 4 teams under .500, none have the division lead, all (save for Arizona), either lost or beat a really weak team (Bears over Raiders…17-6). That is by far the most illogical ranking I’ve ever seen. Am I nuts to think this list is incorrect?
