The Dallas Stars and Sergei Zubov agreed to a 1 Year Extension worth 5.35 million, keeping the Russian born defenseman in a Stars sweater through the 2008-09 season.
Zubov, slated to make four million dollars this upcoming season, will get a 1.35 million dollar raise in 08-09 thanks to the extension, which keeps the steady and productive defenseman on the Stars blue line.
Last season, Zubov led all Stars defenseman in points scored, recording 54 points (12 Goals - 42 Assists), with 9 of his 12 goals coming on the power play. Yet, his greatest memory was his injury scratch in the deciding Game 7 of the 1st round series with Vancouver, which overshadowed his four assists, which led the team in the playoffs in assists and tied for 1st with Stu Barnes for points scored.
Thus, the big signings have been the players that stepped up for the Stars in the playoffs, not adding on to their lineup to right any offensive deficiencies in their lineup.
Plus, Zubov will turn 37 on July 22nd, so the questions of how long he will be able to keep playing will come up, through the length of his extension.
In any case, the next signings for Stars GM Doug Armstrong should be offensive and they need to happen sooner, rather then later.....
